2nd of 144 things I want to change - Prayer

Monday, October 21, 2019

Well the Bible reading is going to plan (so far!). Today I did day 4 on Professor Horner's plan and it's taking about 45 minutes.

Now the other Spiritual thing I want to change is prayer. You've possibly heard that 7 days without prayer makes one weak?

So I'm going to have another go at praying every day. I'm going to aim for half an hour each day. I got this idea from R T Kendall's book "Did You Think To Pray?".

I've tried so many times to have a regular daily prayer time, but the habit has never lasted long - so far...

I hope and pray that this time it will last.

Prayer is not always easy. Throughout the day I find many opportunities to pray. Saying a short prayer in appreciation of a beautiful day. Praying for someone's health, finances or other misfortunates. You don't have to know them. I often pray for people on SP who are struggling. But when I find a block in my routine prayer life I don't force it. At those times I 'Pray the Bible' slowly reading a passage of Scripture and pray about all that comes to my mind. emoticon

Once I knew a woman with many children, who was very busy. The Lord spoke to her through another friend and said, "I heard when you hoed your garden; I heard you when you mopped your floors." A multi-tasker for sure!

Psalm 116 says this, "He hath heard my voice and my supplications...He has inclined His ear unto me." Wow! What could be more amazing?! 1 John 5:14-15 !

It helps to pray when you see it as your time to communicate your thoughts and concerns with your Father in heaven. God makes time for us, we owe Him the same courtesy. He looks forward to His time with each one of us...we, too, need to look forward to our time with Him!

You don't have to measure your prayer time. Just try to have some amount of dedicated prayer time each day. Like NEVAPATE3, I talk to the Lord all day long. I have my "dedicated" prayer time when I get into bed, where I can say prayers of thanks for things that happened during the day.

When I was reading through the Bible cover to cover (I recently finished!), I set my alarm and did it first thing every morning. It just worked better for me to start my day that way, then I felt in a positive mindset before anything else came up.

Whatever works though! The important thing is that you do it, not how much or how long. emoticon

I also started the reading plan. It is very interesting way to do it. I will add prayer to my daily routine with you. It has also been a hit and miss thing for me. We can do this!! emoticon

You can do it. I pray and talk to the Lord off and on all day. It doesn't have to be a set time or length. He just wants a relationship with us and for us to talk to him.
