Despite the lack of success Saturday, I had fun at the tournament. A couple of friends won gold in the mixed doubles section of my skill level (I didn't play in mixed), another friend won a gold in a higher level women's double bracket, so my pals got to bring home some hardware, as well as a bit of prize money that was made available to all the brackets that had more than 8 participants. Usually any sponsor provided prize money is reserved for just the highest level players, to try and induce more of them to come out to any given tournament. But apparently, for this tournament, the sponsor money was granted very late, so they made the decision to just spread the wealth, as it were. Maybe if I'd known there was prizes at stake, I would have tried a bit harder in the last singles match I lost Friday. Then again, I'd hit the proverbial wall, and a fistful of dollars wasn't going to revive my legs at that point of the evening.
Sunday, I just hung out with friends and family. One of my nephew's little friends is eventually going to move out to the DC area, what with his mom working for the FDA and relocating out that way very soon (this week). We had a going away lunch for her at an indian buffet place today. Later in the afternoon, I went to see my nephew play flag football. His team was the Rams, and they were playing against the Falcons. It just so happens that those NFL teams were playing against one another today, and the Rams won 37-10. Before his game, I told my nephew that they had to beat that score...and they did! They won a laugher 41-0, and my nephew got two interceptions and a touchdown.
