Challenge Day 19

Friday, October 11, 2019

I took Natalie to school this morning as the sun rose and then went with my daughter to have a conference with Gwen's speech therapist. It was a good session and I learned a lot about how to help Gwen. She has just had her IEP updated to address her new diagnosis of ADD. It probably doesn't help Gwen that her sister is doing so well academically, already in 7th grade earning high school credit. Gwen is such a sweet and caring little girl I do not doubt she will discover her own strengths.

Back to our challenge. DH had only walked Casey a few minutes so Casey was wanting to go when I got home. It would have been cooler earlier but it wasn't bad. There was a lot of debris in the street due to yesterday's storm. Casey picked up stick after stick so it slowed us down a bit to deal with that. He was tired when we got home and he curled up next to me.

Glad to report I am back on track with the eating and just 2 pounds over what I consider an acceptable relaxed (old lady?) range. I was beginning to doubt that I could stop the weight gain, but it is happening!! Intend to get my waist measurement down an inch, too, for health reasons. Yesterday I got a sincere compliment at Senior Dance from a person who considers me a role model for healthy lifestyle. It made me feel good. (One for the Beck "Worth It" Box. Would like to be a person who doesn't need affirmation by others, but when it motivates me, I'll take it!)

I have a 5k race tomorrow. Friend is picking up my bib today and going to drive us tomorrow. I slept good last night but woke up really stiff and a bit achy. Hoping to wake up feeling better tomorrow but I will do what I can do and not stress over it.

Challenge Day 19 completed and living healthy lifestyle! Hope you are feeling good about your progress!!

Love the ear! You are a wonderful role model to many of us.
It was the same situation for my sis and I as your granddaughters. My sis had to work differently and harder for her grades. She still did college prep and ended up a teacher.

    good luck w/your 5K tomorrow.

You know, with the expert help that Gwen is getting, I have no doubt that she'll find her strength. I will happen slowly, but if she's like my DS, she'll find it!

Saddened to hear of Gwen's troubles :-( Hope they are able to help and she doesn't get too frustrated dealing with the difficulty of learning..

The photo of Casey nestled up against you is sweet!

Glad Gwen is getting the support she needs. I'm curious if she's been tested for visual scanning deficits. They often accompany speech deficits. I have speech, visual scanning and motor processing deficits. Also, know that those of us with such deficits are often well above the IQ norms. I'm happy to hear that those supporting her have no doubt she will discover her own strengths. Academic success does not necessarily translate into life success. There's far more to life than academics and I know that you know that. Your grand daughters are blessed to have you actively engaged in their lives.

Happy to hear you are feeling back on track. And, it is nice to be affirmed, regardless of whether or not we feel a need for it. Perhaps, the external affirmations are a reflection of self affirmation?
