Potato soup and Silly Movie Night.
Sunday, October 06, 2019
Occasionally my neighbors and I have "silly movie night" where we get together and watch some movie that's silly. Examples are Monty Python, Mel Brooks, The Big Lebowski ... lately it's been Jim Jarmusch movies.
Silly movie night also involves desert and an ounce of brandy of some sort. They always make this. I never have this at home and I don't eat sweets and hardly ever alcohol except when we do this. I do love brandy. last night was B&B. yum.
Last night was silly movie night. I had market so got up super early for it. I had my smoothie. Came home, my daughter wanted to make a cream of potato soup. I was worried for my diet because cream of potato soup can be really high in calories unless I make it and work on keeping it low. But this was my daughter's idea and her recipe. I knew I was having silly movie night and was kind of concerned how the calories from her food and my desert treat was going to work out.
She is 17. I did very little to assist. I am pleased with her knife skills.
She made it (and it was amazing ... potatoes, onions, garlic, jalapeño, stock, butter, milk, sour cream and cheese). I knew that it wasn't going to be good for my diet plan (if I had made it, I would have served the cheese and the sour cream at the table to keep calories down. She added it to the pot which is how they serve at restaurants and she works in one)
it was delicious. I made sure to not eat too much of it and I had a good enough portion that was a serving and didn't pig out on it and ate to moderate fullness.
I tracked it since I can as I watched her make it. we ate it at 3. my serving was under 400 calories.
Silly movie night 8:15 PM. I figured I needed to eat something fairly nutritious before going. I had only had some of the soup and my smoothie and knew that eating healthy for me is important. I want to make sure I eat enough veggies and enough protein.
I was aware thatI would be eating intense calories w talenti gelato and brandy and chocolate, that it wasn't nutritious.
So I made an omelet. 2 eggs, a tiny bit of feta and a ton of kale.
I ate, went to movie night. had desert. came home. tracked. I was at 1727 calories (over my 1550 max). If I hadn't had the omelet I wouldn't have gone over.
But I also wouldn't have had the veggies and protein I needed.
Was I mad at myself for going over 1550? No. Usually I am at 1200-1300 and going over very occasionally is ok. I mean, I don't think I've gone over 1500 except maybe half dozen times since the beginning of the year. and maybe even less. I seldom even make 1400 calories.
PLUS today is a new day. I'm back on track.
