Learning How To Make Adjustments

Today, the Girls' Varsity Golf Team had their sectional tournament. And as I was watching the match I started thinking about adjustments.
In golf, there are numerous times when you have to make adjustments. You sometimes have to pick a different club because of wind, or the lie of your ball. Sometimes you keep slicing, so you have to start aiming a little farther left.
And it made me think about making adjustments when trying to lose weight and get healthy. Sometimes, you look up the restaurant online and find what you're going to order, and then you get to the restaurant and it's closed or their out of that item. And you have to adjust.
And I think to be successful in weight loss you need to have a lot of clubs in your proverbial golf bag on how to adjust. So here are just some adjustments that have worked for me and you might find helpful.
When going out to eat:
Ask for a box when your food first comes out if the portion is bigger than you need to eat.
Tell the waiter or waitress that you don't need bread or chips and salsa before they're brought to the table if you don't want the temptation.
When you have a moment of weakness, or in my case, a Dairy Queen Blizzard you didn't need:
Go for a walk and get some exercise in to burn a few calories. It may not equal what you ate, but a calorie differential is a differential.
See if there are changes you can make to your meal plan the next day to save a few calories.
When you don't feel like exercising:
Find a good show on Netflix/Hulu/Internet and take your phone/tablet to the gym and watch an episode while on the bike or the elliptical. You don't have to be lifting crazy amounts of weight or running a marathon to burn calories. Movement is movement and if you're going to be sitting at home on your couch and watching TV, go watch that episode at the gym while sitting on the bike and moving your legs.
Try to find a new way of exercising that you haven't tried before, or that you can do in your own home. Find a workout video on Youtube, or rent an exercise DVD from the library. Heck, just dancing around to music I like or doing extra squats when loading or unloading the dishwasher are some of the silly things I do.
