My Normal routine is get up at 5:25 AM grab a bottle of water and start my work out. I do 30 min of Strength training or Core then I do 20-30 min on the treadmill. I do this at least 5 days a week Monday thru Friday. But this morning my treadmill was messed up. The track is slipping to far to the left and making horrible noises... so I stop. I don't have another cardio routine that I can do. I am a mess. I forget to make coffee .. I NEED MY COFFEE>> how do you forget coffee??? I am totally out of it. I am tired and I am hungry.. I am never hungry any more. Hours later it s 10 am and I still know that my whole day is off because my routine was interrupted. How do you come back from that ??? Today I can't, the chance to fix it by finding a cardio workout this morning is gone. But I can shake it off and I can make a plan for tomorrow until I get my treadmill fixed. I know that my routine is the key to my success and I am not willing to give it up. I am only willing to tweak it until I can put it back in its place. I need my treadmill. I can't do a lot of cardio walks in my home because of the impact on my ankles and hips... my plan was to buy an elliptical next month and start working on that 1 or 2 x of the week instead of the treadmill until my ankles and hips were strong enough to do a week at a time or trade out every other day. Now I may have to buy a new treadmill. So it is not just today's routine or plan that has to change. It means future decisions and sacrifices have to be made. HOW DO YOU HANDLE A BREAK IN YOUR ROUTINE.... are you prepared for a glitch? lesson learned... always have a plan B & C.

Routines can be great, but can also be boring.

Breaks in routines are difficult--that's why planning and implementing a great plan, like the one you had going, is so awesome at producing results! I have allergies and some days I just cannot handle the treadmill due to the inner ear/fluid thing with the allergies. When that happens I jog in place. Very effective cardio. Hope you can find a repair for the treadmill or a new routine which works for you.

Well, both my plan B & C are typically "step away and have another cup of coffee" LOLOL - that way I'll never forget the important thing!

I tell my young students that, unless their lives are in imminent danger, there's virtually nothing that will come your way that won't be benefited by stepping away for one minute, do a short breathing exercise, and then get back to it. I started taking my own advice because, like you, I can get totally derailed when one thing goes astray (especially if it's first thing in the morning).

You have choice. You can select joy over despair. You can select happiness over tears. You can select action over apathy. You can select growth over stagnation. You can select you. And you can select life. And it's time that people tell you you're not at the mercy of forces greater than yourself. You are, indeed, the greatest force for you.
