So, my A1C came back elevated. This time the doctor referred me to a nutritionist. It was kind of funny actually. It was sort of like, well you can go if you want. My thought was absolutely I do. They were like, make sure you check to see if your medical insurance will cover it. So, I did and they do. That was very surprising, cause are insurance isn't great.
I've had my first visit, and there were actually two nutritionists at the appointment. My body is pretty out of wack, with PCOS and IBS that hasn't been diagnosed. Some of the IBS is from not having a gall bladder, maybe some from food sensitivites, and some from extensive antibiotic use as a kid.
So, I am working on eating a balanced amount of Protein, fat and carbohydrates. What I am discovering is that eating carbs make me feel sick. So, my ratio of protein and fat to carbs is probably higher than your average person. I feel so much better already. The fuzzy thinking is disappearing.
While I do need to work on losing weight. My nutritionist says it's more important to heal my gut right now.
I think the hardest part for me has been eating more fat. Before, I consistently didn't meet my protein and fat goals for the day. Now, I do. Carbs, though are a small part of my day.
I didn't expect the mental battle that eating more fats has caused. I was raised by a Mom who constantly dieted and ate low fat. It is opposite to how I was raised. But the bottom line for me at least, is that I feel better.
