Lost My Motivation

I have lost my motivation to get healthy. I just can't seem to have enough energy to go for my walks. My body craves sugar because it's so tired all the time. I'm on two different medications, 1 is a sleep medicine and the others is a medicine that makes me really sleepy and it's for my vertigo. It makes me sleep like... 10 to 12 hours a day. And it's always early morning I fall asleep. Anywhere from 2 am to 6 am, I fall asleep. Which screws up my whole day!

Any suggestions?

    Hi Lori,

    I use a light box during the winter for seasonal depression. My sleep MD suggested I use the box year round. It has made a great difference. The dark gloom that used to attach itself to me has gone. Keep looking for help.

    I agree with 1CRAZYDOG that maybe checking with the pharmacist about possible interactions - have them check ALL of the meds you take, even if some you don't take every day.

    As for getting out for walks - do what I do - top of the hour, or as close to it as possible, I get up and walk a path in my apartment that I've already counted steps for. I have a 100-steps & a 200-steps for some variety. I try for 10 minutes every hour I'm awake (that could be trouble for you, but maybe it could help you be awake more too). Some rounds I will challenge myself to go more times than the last hour, or maybe switch each round between the 100 & the 200. Other times I just crank up some music & dance my way around the path.

    Sometimes things work better when you take out the choice or decision about it - like me doing the 10 minute walk/dance thing every hour - it's like some weird habit now that I just get up and do when I'm home alone (which is a lot).

    Hmmmm. . . maybe the sleep med and the vertigo med are working against each other?? Maybe check with your prescriber and/or the pharmacist to see if there is an interaction and if there may be a better time to take those meds.

    When I find I am not getting my workouts in I schedule it on my calendar like it was an appointment for someone else. I will do everything for someone else but usually let myself slide. I need to respect myself just as much. Also, NO TV or other extraction can occur until I have reached my exercise goal.
