It's a Journey

Read this on LIvestrong.com today: "Whether you're at day one or 100, healthy choices are part of a lifelong journey — not a quick fix." the article is about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and that's really what it's all about. Too many times I focused on just losing weight. with that as the end goal when I lost the weight I figured I'd done it....and then went right back to the way I was living. Of course the weight came back.

However when I approached this differently and realized that carrying all the extra weight, not eating a healthy diet and rarely exercising were not healthy habits. At some time, that was going to come back to bite me (no pun intended). After many years of dieting and reading about what to do, it all sort of came together. Figured out that choosing to eat healthy most of the time would work and that eating healthy could mean eating delicious food. Who doesn't enjoy a crisp apple, or a nicely grilled piece of fish with roasted veggies?

Had fun exploring healthy and delicious recipes. Started walking at least 10 minutes a day and over the months expanded that. Basically "slid" into exercising. Ditched the all or nothing mindset with any of the changes I was making.

As I approach my 7th anniversary of committing to a healthy life I can safely say the journey is worth it. And like any journey there are twists and turns and that's what makes it fun and exciting.
