Time for a Check-Up

September is the month I celebrate my maintenance anniversary on SparkPeople. It was in September of 2010 that I first made it down into my goal weight range, and it was in September a few years later that I reached my actual goal weight.

So every September I update my SparkPage and take stock a bit. As I read my update from last September, I realized that nothing much has changed. A whole year has gone by and I am forced to admit I haven't met my goal. Not only am I not back to my goal weight range, but I have been hovering a little higher still, around 155 pounds, for several months. Next September will be my 10-year anniversary of reaching my weight-loss goal on Spark, and I really do intend to celebrate that milestone by being back in my goal range.

I am not going to bore you or myself by once again writing down my plan. It's the same plan that worked nine years ago and I know perfectly well what it is. I just need to DO it! But I am going to re-post these crucial reminders to myself from my SparkPage:

~Set reasonable limits on your time and energy.

~Identify your frustrated yearnings and find new ways to take care of yourself besides eating.

~Vent unpleasant emotions - in a journal or in the mirror - to diffuse them faster than food.

~Progress, not perfection!

    I like all your reminders - especially the one about venting - in fact, sometimes I find it good to just state, as calmly as I can, what my problem is - to the person who's behavior is causing it. He can't change if he doesn't know it's a problem.

    Is there anything we can do to help? For awhile, a couple of other sparkers and I sent weekly or monthly checkins via email to each other, and my daughter and I text each other our nutrition numbers most days. Would something like that be helpful for you as you push toward your goals?

    You are doing great. Goal weight has eluded me for the last 2 years as well but I do my best every day and keep on working out daily and I may decide to stay here where my body seems happy! Keep on keeping on!
