September Already

Sunday, September 01, 2019

This year has flown by. It's already September and I've not nearly accomplished the things I wanted to. I started off well, but life had thrown my a curve ball. My mother was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. In a matter of 2 months she's had emergency surgery, 2 rounds of radiation treatments , now emergency oral surgery before chemo can start all while participating in physical therapy to learn to walk unassisted again. Oh yeah& I'm her primary care giver which means. I work a full time job & come home take & care for her daily. My days of from work consist of taking her to her appointments. I'm not complaining. I Love my mother, is just a lot especially when I'm not the only child.

I really understand how you feel. My mom had dementia (Alzheimers) for about 10 years. As an only child I was the one taking care of her. I was working so she went into an independent living facility and then an assisted living one. I went to see her and spent time with her almost every day.

Make sure you find some time for yourself. You can't help them if you make yourself sick trying to take care of her. My brother (18 years younger than me) had passed away a few years before she was diagnosed so all the decisions were made by me. I'm like you … I wouldn't have had it any other way; but it does get hard at times and your heart aches because you can't do more for them.
