Last Sighs of Summer
Saturday, August 24, 2019
Living in a lovely tourist destination, and just a couple blocks from one of Texas’ most famous dance halls, we can almost feel the summer drawing to a close... throngs of well heeled tourists (probably here from Houston just 3 hours away) are marking off the End Of Summer Vacation from their To Do lists, and clogging the local roads, eateries and river haunts.. and live music is booming from GRUENE Hall.
Somehow, a trick of the neighborhood topography makes the music ricochet about the houses and sound like it’s coming from just across the street, and I have to check to see if my neighbors are having a rocking good pool party (they’re not... it’s just Gruene Hall closing down the summer with great (but loud) musicians)
There is almost a melancholy feel to saying good-bye to summer, which doesn’t make sense since it’s still hot as blue blazes around here... I know that school has already started and the calendar shows that football starts soon... I’m looking forward to cooler weather for sure, but there is still plenty of heat to go.
One big PLUS to high temps... since I want to be ready to go swim laps at any chance, I’ve been leaving my tote bag with all my shower and shampoo supplies in the car, and SO, when I go swim, my shampoo and conditioner are really quite hot, having sat out in the equivalent of a solar oven... I get a spa treatment every time!
