Comparing last year to this year

Sunday, August 18, 2019

Happy Sunday!

After 2 weeks of keeping within my calorie range and exercising, I stepped on the scale this morning to find myself 4 lbs heavier. That means I've gained almost all the weight back that I lost last year. UGH.

Of course, this weight gain could be muscle, which seems more likely than fat. But still, who wants to see the scale go back so much?

I've decided not to be down on myself. I lie, I am down on myself, but I'm not going to get all sad and cry-y. I'm taking action instead.

I looked at my SP trackers from 1 year ago to see what I was doing differently.

1. I was strictly following a protein shake plan at 2x a day for 5 days then 2 days of "cleanse" aka a light fast.
2. I ate healthy frozen meals for my one regular meal a day.
3. When I was eating the protein shake plan, my portions were small.
4. I wasn't bingeing on sweets. In fact, I wasn't eating any sweets except for the occasional iced tea.
5. I was walking and swimming.
6. I was sick a lot, which helps me lose weight rapidly.

So let's compare that to what I'm doing now.

1. I'm mostly sticking to a 1900-calorie diet.
2. Sometimes I eat ice cream and I'm not totally sure I'm being honest about how much I'm eating because I'm not measuring it out.
3. I'm much more active now, burning a lot more calories.
4. I am not sick and able to do a lot more physically.

So what I see is the difference from last year to this year is mostly about calories in. I need to get that under control.

I think eating more protein will definitely help carb my desire to snack. With more activity means I'm a lot hungrier than I'd like to be. But I don't want to stop being active.

So today I went and filled the freezer with tasty frozen meals. The next time I go to the grocery store, I'll get more eggs to make hard-boiled eggs and fruit, like apples, to snack on when needed. Plus cottage cheese for a snack, too.

I've got this! I just know I'll look in the mirror soon and instead of seeing a round face, I'll see myself slimmed down. And I'll be back into my jeans buttoned up again soon!

Oh! And I've been doing the Couch to 5k program! Although I know I need to be careful about running while 30 lbs overweight, I am taking it easy with the program and running on a flat trail that's easy on my knees. Feels good to be back out there again!

Here's my before image so I can compare it to what I look like in a month.

You are doing well. Thanks for sharing your journey.. It sounds like your mirror may be giving you a clearer picture of your progress than the scales.

When I am unsure. At thus time, nursing an injury, my cardio is limited so I must measure. And log...otherwise I will gain.

I enjoyed reading your blog and have experienced some of your issues. I despise shakes, and really should give them anither chance. I am doing fairly well at 11 pounds over my top weight range . I limit carbs...avoid ice cream and weigh food when I
