Shift in Trajectory

Wednesday, August 14, 2019

I'm still struggling, but I'm getting there.
So, I had an... interesting revelation (/experience/realization) yesterday night. I was going through old progress photos, especially at my skinniest (early March 2018). I'm not sure if I like that physique! I was super lean, and I don't know if I like that!
No, now I've got actual biceps and triceps. My chest and back are properly strong. I mean, absolutely, according to the scale, I was better off, but... I like my muscles more than I like being lean. So, I need to adjust my goals and whatnot. I need to shift where I'm headed to.

The main objectives for my body are:
Mobile - I can move in the ways I want without excessive muscle/ joint stiffness (especially lower back and hamstrings).
Strong - I can push, pull, and hold lots of weight.
Enduring - I can push, pull, and hold weight for a long period of time.
Balanced - I can balance left, right, up, down. This includes footwork.
Fast - I can act and react in short amounts of time and shift between places and activities fast.
Well - I can recover from setbacks, injuries, and workouts quickly.
Anti-Fragile - I don't break easy.

A lot of this means I need to reincorporate "natural" movements into my routines: bear crawls, monkey bars, frog jumps (that's what I call them), etc. I also need to push myself to practice yoga or other forms of strength building flexibility work.

As always, stay strong, sleep long, and keep on keepin' on!

Your plan sounds very smart to me. It sounds like functional fitness. The scale isn't your boss. You determine what is best for you, not the scale. Great planning!

Your new goals are reasonable and fair. You are thinking ahead on what you really want and more importantly what you really need.
