Morning runs always sound like a great idea at 2AM.
"I'm going to get up in 2 hours and go for a run!"
I said that yesterday but when 4AM came I grabbed the duvet, pulled it up to my neck, turned up the fan and decided that 2AM Tami is crazy.
This morning I woke up at 4:15 the birds were singing. I immediately got out of bed and dressed before 4AM Tami realized what was going to happen. It was a beautiful morning, the sky was still grey waiting for the sun to come up. The birds and squirrels were out in force, the waterfalls were gushing and there wasn't a soul to be seen.
I don't run on the road often but today I wanted to head up the street before heading down to the river. I live on the border of two cities and today I can claim I ran clear across to the next city. Ok, that was 2KM away, but still making that proclamation.
After that I saw the sky was starting to show the first signs of pink and I headed to the river. Down the trails and along the water. A beaver splashed which startled me and I turned on my music to let any other animals know that I was around. Back up the trails to home, the thought of a shower and coffee inspired me to run the last hills.
When I restarted running I was averaging a 10 min/KM. I had to chant to myself it's just a starting point, just a starting point, not my ending point. That was 6 weeks ago. Today I averaged 7:30 min/KM. I was thrilled with that! Still not where I know I need to be in order to have successful races in the fall but a huge leap forward. I've increased my strength training which always makes a difference, I felt my stride wasn't just longer but more powerful. Loved that feeling. What a great way to start the day.
