Can I be happy with less?

I have been measuring my food and tracking calories all year. Lately, I started having 1/4 cup servings vs 1/2 cups servings of higher-calorie foods like Bush beans, oatmeal, bran muffin, mashed potatoes, yogurt, and cottage cheese, rather than just giving them up. I have sufficient protein and calcium from other sources, so there is no nutritional impact. When I have a hot dog bun, I scoop out the insides and it reduces the weight of the bun by more than half. Yes, it works. I like having the smaller amounts and if I am still a little hungry I have apple slices. In a week it makes a difference in total calories.
