Day five, divide and conquer

Day 5 of invasion of the grandchildren.

We've accepted the new villagers into our home. Unaccustomed to their odd rituals and chaotic behaviour we took time to adjust to the new world. Mess, spills, noise, crying (mine mostly), whining and wining (again, me) have become the new normal.

Today we took the clan out into the city to show them a world they were unfamiliar with. They entered the science exhibit slowly, unsure of what to expect and quickly became elated with the loudness, the scatting of small bodies, the screams and laughter. They did what was expected of them, overtake us and conquer. It didn't take long before we were searching the exhibits for their missing leader (aka oldest grandson). This ended well when we noticed he was captured by a freshly minted security guard. In turn my husband was lectured by said guard about not allowing children to go off on their own, it could be dangerous. I of course being the supportive spouse did the proper thing. Stood back and snickered.

This was the first day there wasn't a complaint about the activities, food or lack of video games. After dinner we took them for a walk through the community to look at colours of the homes, we need to pick our new siding. They got to point out what they liked and I got to smile and nod about how lovely it was. Then it was movie and popcorn before having them call it a night.

I miss that I didn't get time to go for a run and looking forward to getting my regular routine back. Having them here has certainly had it's ups and downs but today made up for the last couple of days.

Tomorrow they get to go hiking, I'm hopeful they will like it. They haven't any other time I've taken them but it's good to dream.
