Going home Wednesday
Monday, June 24, 2019
So on Saturday, I could have sworn I got a message saying I was working all week, but by the end of the day the schedule had been reduced to going through Wednesday. Today, another day got chopped off, and Wednesday became the day we fly home. Fair enough, I got 4 full weeks out of the project plus a tad more, so from a guarantee of 2 weeks, and a hope I'd get three, I got more out of this than I'd anticipated. And if you've been following along here, I certainly have enjoyed myself while in Ottawa.
Sadly, I have a couple of places I would have liked to revisit, or check out for the first time, that I won't make it to. I could have done so tonight, but I'm tired, and utterly failing to take advantage of the high 70s temps. Could do so tomorrow, but it looks like it might rain all day, which, granted, shouldn't stop me, but then I'd have to stuff wet clothes into my suitcase for the next day's flight. Guess that's no excuse, either, is it? Heh. Packed most of my stuff up over the past half hour, so I have the luxury of going out to do something tomorrow night. We'll see how bad the weather is.
I'll be interested to see how bad the weight is when I get back on Wednesday. Kind of feel like I've put on a bit over the past week. It's counterintuitive, because I largely stopped eating dinner at restaurants after getting into this hotel that has a stove and real kitchen. But a few weeks ago I lamented that I might have to buy a new belt because I couldn't cinch the current one tight enough to keep pants at the level I liked them (loosely translated to "where the hem of the pants wouldn't fall under the heel of my shoe", and now it feels like I can do so. Though, it might have been the pants I was wearing today, I'm not sure. I do have to eat a bunch of stuff tonight and tomorrow, just to get rid of it, even after giving some stuff away to fellow consultants who as of now are staying at least a couple of extra days. If I'd made it to the grocery store on Friday, I would have had a near perfect amount of groceries. As it is, about half my groceries from yesterday's trip have been given away or will be chucked. At least the shrimp has gone to someone who will put them to good use, and the second can of pringles, which I really did not need to eat, will be consumed by someone else.
I've talked myself into doing nothing tonight. Except....my alma mater, Michigan, is playing for the College World Series title in baseball, in a three game series against Vanderbilt, starting tonight. Sadly, I can't watch it, due to ESPN not showing on Canadian TV, and me not having any VPN program installed on my laptop. But i'm listening to the game on line, and liking what i hear so far - Michigan is up 4-0 after their first two at bats, but Vandy just got one back in their half of the second.
