MM Day 22 and Gym Week 3 Update
Saturday, June 22, 2019
I only set my alarm for 6:15 Monday through Friday. I don't have to be anywhere on the weekends so if I sleep in I just do my MM routine whenever I do wake up. Today though it became evident that my wake time has become a habit. I woke up, without an alarm, at around 6 am. I did my silence while my husband snored beside me. After spending several minutes meditating I did decide to go back to sleep since it is the weekend and I can but by 8 I was awake again so I did my reading, my affirmations and I am working on my visualization. I will get the exercise part in when my daughter wakes up and we decide what we are doing today, gym or outdoors.
We only made it to the gym once this week but we have exercised outdoors the remaining days enjoying the sun and drinking in its energy as the days have progressed to the solstice yesterday. I am loving that activity is becoming a daily habit and that our outdoor days have been rewarding us with sightings of deer and bison and the songs and calls of birds and other vocal creatures. On a good day we get in more than 60 minutes. On my "bad" days I still get in about 10-20 even if it is in 5 minute bursts.
I have begun listening to podcasts at work this week. It has improved my focus to an amazing degree and with it my productivity. Since my brain injury music has not had that effect. When there is music my brain wants to focus on that rather than settling and letting me focus on the task at hand. Something about the sound of the human voice in podcasts lets my brain settle and I can work and listen at the same time. I am thoroughly enjoying the positive messages from shows like Meaningful Conversations with Maria Schriver, Super Soul Conversations with Oprah, The Good Life Project, Missed in History Class, and others. Lavar Burton Reads is a particular favorite as it is kind of like an adult version of Reading Rainbow which I loved when my cousins were kids and loved watching with my daughter when she was a kid.
I printed my affirmations and put them under the clear silicon mat at my workstation so that they are always visible when I am at my bench. That seems to be working nicely and I plan to continue that habit. I think that space my end up being my "vision board" or at least my "affirmation station" as I find other positive uplifting images to add to my collection.
The journey through the year is nearly half way done. Thus far it has been an interesting trip. I'm looking forward to seeing what the second half brings. #OnwardtoONEderland
