If It Makes You Happy............

Yesterday, Nola and I picked out flowers at a local Amish Greenhouse to put into a large pot for my Mom's patio. I have tried for years to get my Mom to love flowers the way that I do. I have NEVER succeeded. She always declines my offer to put containers of flowers on her patio, so I finally gave up. Monday, when we took her to lunch, I made the comment that the flowers on her neighbor's patios were really beautiful. Then she said, " Aren't they lovely. I really wish that someone would make me a pot of mixed flowers that I could see from my chair and enjoy on the patio." I was speechless...………………...for a minute! Then I reminded her that I had suggested just that for several years in a row and that she had told me NO. Her response was that she had changed her mind...……………...after 20-some years!!!
Anyway, Nola and I picked out some purple wave Petunias, and combined them with 2 trailing vines, and a very cute plant with small yellow flowers and another with pink flowers with yellow trim which tied all of the colors together. After we picked out all of Mom's plants, I spotted a beautiful small Petunia that was a cream and light purple. I loved it and put it in the cart. Then I thought some more and realized that I really didn't need one more plant, so I put it back on the shelf. Then I looked around some more and when I passed THE plant, I put it back in my cart. Then after a bit, I put it back on the shelf. None of this went un-noticed by Nola and in her booming voice, she said, "Grandma...………….You love flowers, and I think that you really love that one...………….Flowers make you happy. If that plant makes you happy, you need to take it home with us."
Another woman who was also shopping for flowers, asked me if she could borrow Nola the next time she and her husband went shopping.
Tomorrow is her last day with us this week. It has gone so fast!!! We made cupcakes this afternoon, will frost them tomorrow morning, and will then have a Tea Party with my Grandma's favorite China which she gave me shortly before she died. I know that she would totally approve of the use of the China for this very important tea party. I asked Nola if she had ever had Tea and she wrinkled her nose and said that she had...……….that it was nasty...……….and that she would substitute hot water with honey.
Those of you with Grandchildren know full well how quickly they grow up and how precious the minutes spent with them are. Next week, we have her for four more days and I am looking forward to them too...………..even though I am very tired at night...………..it is a good-tired.
