Motivational quote of the week

Hello SparkMembers!

This week, I'll match a motivational quote to an experience I've had over the past couple of weeks. Here is the quote:

"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."
-- Confucius

I chose this quote because I had a setback in my surgery recovery a couple of weeks ago and wrote about that in a short blog earlier this week that I'll share below.

How to make setbacks positive

I had a setback a couple of weeks ago. I played tennis with my brother in the hot sun when I was already tired. That gave me the whammy (in technical terms) and knocked me back a few steps.

I took it easy with fitness for the past couple of weeks -- still getting a fair amount of minutes per day, but with more of a focus in low-intensity exercise.

Today I did 20 minutes on the exercise bike for the first time since this setback. I just lowered my level by one from 11 to 10. This felt perfect and I got a pretty good sweat without over-doing it. I sometimes enhance my sweating intentionally by wearing a beanie hat during the workout because of the positive benefits of sweating. Then, I make sure to drink water afterwards.

Setbacks can be frustrating, but they are part of life. Always remember that it's how you handle setbacks that is the most important element for most setbacks. Here is my formula for handling setbacks if you are interested:

I'm happy to share both this quote and my formula for setbacks in case you need any motivation and support when the inevitable setback happens. By the way, this setbacks article is part of our free 28-day SparkCoach program if you'd like to give that a try (currently only available on desktop at SparkPeople.com).

Two more quick updates before I go. I am currently working on these two projects that I'll share soon:

1) Improved sleep -- I have used a new product (not a drug or supplement) for the past 3 weeks. I have averaged an extra 60 minutes of sleep per night using this. I want to do a bit more research before I share this with you (it's backed by solid scientific research).

2) Personal Productivity Score -- I'm also getting close to publishing a new motivational tool that will help you visualize ways you can improve your health and personal leadership score.

Let me know what you think about this week's quote or if you'd like to share any highlights from your week below!
