Motivational quote of the week

Hi Everyone

I have another nature-related motivational quote this week that comes from one of my favorite motivational actors:

Spring is nature's way of saying, 'Let's party!
-- Robin Williams

We had a rainy winter here in Northern California, so this has led to a bounty of spring flowers blooming all around us. Nature is ready to party this spring. I hope the same is happening where you are located if it is spring for you.

My highlight this week was going on a short trip to the Big Sur area while the kids were out for spring break. We found a place pet-friendly place so took Flash along for the adventure. It was fun to hike with the family plus Flash.

I wanted to make a comment about looking for daily highlights. One SparkMember mentioned that it was hard to think about daily highlights because so much was hard about her life now.

I understand this feeling, but would say this is actually the right time to still look for small daily highlights and intentionally try to make those highlights if necessary.

One of the reasons connects to stress. I will write more about this soon, but when you are stressed, your body releases a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol can be good in small doses because it makes you act decisively in a fight-or-flight situation. But, too much cortisol can cause all kinds of problems for your body.

So, during tough times, if you MAKE highlights that help dissipate this hormone like physical activity and do other things to reduce your stress levels, this can make a big impact on how you end up after tough situations.

It's tough to hear about people going through tough situations like I know so many of you are at various times. I often try to keep things "sparky" in my writing, but know that these techniques can work in all "seasons" of your life since we all have to go through tough times.

Let me know if you have any highlights from this week below.

Thanks for your support!

I hope you had a wonderful Easter. My success was a complete day without any candy. I had a wonderful dinner and then a portion controlled slice of cheesecake. Yum. I did not have any candy in my house, so I ate no candy.

A great blog Chris. I've been there - where we have to press in and choose to look for the highlights in seasons of sickness and difficulty. For me my relationship with Father God is all important and the knowledge that 'my life is hidden with Christ in God.' That knowledge kept me going through cancer and chemo a few years ago.
We all have our favourite seasons - but seasons change. Whatever our preferences there is beauty and enjoyment to be had in every season. I'm in a new season in a new home and there are highlights every day - walking by the sea, seeing beautiful flower displays, having enough money so that I have to be sensible but don't have to be stingy. I'm loving this season - but God is good in every season!

My highlight this week was getting a new fan bike that I really love! Also, I increased my calorie intake this week because I was feeling unusually tired. I feel better now and I didn't gain weight. Yay! Thanks for asking. Have a good night.

    I love Robin Williams quote.

My highlight this week was sleeping 5 hours last night. I know that is not enough sleep and I am trying to get more but it is better than the 3 to 4 hours of sleep I have been getting the past two months.

Hope evrryone had a great Easter emoticon

We are traveling from the deep south of TX (McAllen) to MN. (Mpls) with our brand new camper. Several trials and tribulations but that happens with new. We had to laugh a little when we parked today. Our neighbors complimented us on the back in by saying, "That' ain't you first rodeo". We agreed. So go unhooked and started putting down jacks. I decided to open the door and pull down those fancy new stairs which are stored inside and guess what! The tied down picnic table was in the way! That meant pull up the jacks, hook up the RV, back it another 6" and start again!! We traded out 12 yr old RV a couple weeks ago and still have a big learning curve with new fangled features on an RV!! A few other highlights but this will do for now!

My awesome highlight this week came as a result of my dear daughters-in-love arranged for a photographer to come to our home & do family pictures last night while all of the kids and grandkids were here for Easter dinner! They knew I was wanting to do this, but due to a breast cancer diagnosis I hadn't managed to arrange anything. Pics were Saturday (last night) and Wednesday chemo starts and the oncologist said I will lose my hair. Such a marvelous weekend enjoying my 4 grands along with the rest of the family! God is so good! I am also thrilled at how well you are doing following your emergency brain surgery. Kudos on the wonderful family time you had.

I always come away with some tidbits of laughter, joy, and, fun. And learn something too ;) Thank you, Chris! Hope your health is gaining by leaps and bounds! Florida is beautiful right now! It has been sunny and breezy during the day and cooler with less humidity (phew! Lol) at night. This was Holy Week with the culmination of Easter Sunday. I got to serve at my church but also enjoy much fellowship, Friendship, new experiences, and time with my boyfriend and son. Loved it! Those are a few highlights! :)

My highlight was resolving billing issues with the insurance company, pharmacy and doctor's office.

In a few minutes a second-cousin I've reconnected with is coming over for lunch to catch up. We saw each other when children and family gatherings but have only crossed trails a few times as adults.

My highlight this week was making it to two early morning TaiChi classes. I’m not a morning person so that was quite the challenge.

My highlight this week was that my severe reaction to an antibiotic did not result in my being admitted to the hospital. After 7 hours in the ER, I was allowed to go home since I finally kept down a glass of water. My cat was overjoyed when I got home and would not let out of her sight.

Well said and Thank you Chris!!
My highlight for today and for my entire vacation in Florida is what happened on our beach walk this morning. Coming over the bridge I just happened to see two manatees come up for air and immediately going back down but not before I noticed how gigantic they were and really AWESOME! Of course I didn't get my camera out fast enough but that was such a great feeling to see these majestic creatures. Then to top it off we saw 5 or 6 dolphins swimming around. Life is good!

Bet it was beautiful at Big Sur. Glad you, the family, and Flash took advantage of an opportunity to visit the park and enjoyed it.

Our weekly highlight was a wildflower hike in a local regional park. Fabulous!

Have experienced serious health repercussions related to excess cortisol. Have often mentioned stress as my Achilles' heel. Choosing to address the stress is what led to my weight loss. The weight loss was a pleasant side effect of doing a better job of stress management. Getting outdoors is the balm that soothes my soul.

emoticon Chris for creating the space for such a beautiful community to blossom.
