This week is starting SO much better!

Tuesday, April 02, 2019

I made it back to the rink today for the first time in months. It was my first time back on wheels since my concussion (not a skate related injury) and I was moderately terrified. I didn't go full on pads but I did and will continue to wear a helmet. The risk of head injury is now super real to me and it far too great to ignore to "be cute". It didn't help that I stumbled on the carpet and nearly fell into the glass case at the stuff shop before I ever hit the rink...but skates + carpet are not a good thing in general. Once I got on the rink with the beginning beginners it didn't take me long to get super bored and for coach to clear me to free skate while she worked with the real beginners. I skated for an entire hour. By the end of the lesson time I was doing crossovers and one foot skills again even though they are rusty and I am weaker than I was in the fall from lack of being on skates. I expected to hurt all over this morning as my legs were rubbery when I got off the rink but so far I feel really good.

Food choices were better as well even though I "went over my calories" by about 100...I burned over 1700 calories yesterday according to my fitbit...I only ate 1900. I think I'm probably ok given the activity level and that they weren't empty calories as they have been recently.

Here's to a good start to build on. #ONWARDtoONEDERLAND

CruisinLosin - I've always felt safe on the rink without it but I didn't think a simple trip on the sidewalk could be a life changing event before either! I was very wrong about that.

I would have been petrified! Once you suffer from any sort of head or brain injury you are more of a risk of something else happening to you....just ask me about it! Safety equipment is there for a reason. It doesn't matter just how dorky you look in it because the benefits far out way the risk of not having it.
