Keeping My Program Exciting

Monday, April 01, 2019

March was a really good month for me. I discovered the podcast Phit-N-Phat and it has really helped me discover a few missing pieces to my whole weight loss journey.

Nothing I am doing is really new. It is just that I have found a way to keep myself consistent. I plan my meals every night for the next day. And each day I write out my goal for one year from now, one month from now, one week from now, and then I make a list of all the steps I am willing to do today to help me achieve my goals.

At first I was really resistant to making a plan like this, writing it down every day, and then going back over it and checking to see what I had done and not done. But what I am finding is that each day I am finding little ways to tweak this list. Like today I wrote down that I would be fierce in my exercise for today. And without even thinking about it, I did a long walk, then came home and groomed my dog, and gave her a bath. These are 2 things that I usually would pay someone else to do, but I knew it would take a lot of strength and calories to get this all done.

And on my food list I ate everything according to plan, but for the protein bar that I had listed for a snack, I traded that for a half cup of plain yogurt. The funny thing is that I didn't really even think that hard about making these changes. It was more like a subliminal suggestion that I created for myself by making the list to begin with. My mind was working on ways to change things up a little to make it more active and healthier.

I don't know if all of these new habits that I am creating will continue to keep me motivated, but I am sure excited to continue trying. This is the first time in my life that I feel confidant that I will stick with my plan because it really feels like this is what I will be doing for the rest of my life.

Love your quote and also that you are settling into a plan that works for you. I also found that writing those things - meal plans and fitness schedule - down has helped me stay committed. I read that by writing plans and goals down, all the small steps you want to take, removes the constant chatter in your brain and frees up space to think about other things. Checking them off at the end of the day helps complete your level of commitment.

    Keep up the good work!

Sounds like you are in a calm and happy place.
Imagining how grooming and bathing your dog takes a lot of strength and calories made me smile : ))
