I ended up in the hospital in the wee hours of last Wednesday. I believe it was 1) a result of my lack of attention to details and 2) divine intervention. My knee and back have been extremely painful. I was taking a maximum dose of ibuprofen and still needed relief. I often confuse Advil
and Aleve. I did check and started taking Aleve to supplement the ibuprofen. Early last week I noticed that my fluid output was not appropriate to the amount of input. I started to search for reasons on the internet and came to an article about interactions of Nsaids an ibupropen. The article suggested calling poison control. I was advised to go to the hospital. Earlier I had gone to a healing Mass even though I had planned not to go. I wasn't feeling up to getting ready to leave the house. My parish priest prayed for me. Even though I didn't want to go to the hospital, I got dressed and went.

Once in the hospital, it was determined that I did have a full bladder and that situation was handled. The doctors and nurse seemed more concerned with what they described to me as a heart flutter and asked if I had ever been diagnosed with this condition. I had not. They consulted with my primary care doctor, decided to admit me and put me on an IV drip of a blood thinner.

The mobility issue and the bladder issue took second place to the heart issue. I left the hospital on Thursday afternoon on an oral blood thinner and no further information about my other concern. I can't walk without a cane or walker, urine output while not as bad a before is decreased. My legs and feet are numb.

I see my doctor on Wednesday. What I think: Without benefit of medical training, I think that the stenosis in my back may be at the base of my mobility problem. I believer that I went to Mass and to the hospital because of divine intervention. I didn't know about a heart/stroke potential but I believe God used that fear that I had overdosed on ibuprofen to get my attention. I am not sure about what happens next. My knee surgery may have to be postponed and I don't know if there is anything other than surgery to help my back. I have, not surprisingly, decided to eliminate ibuprofen, Advil an Aleve from my life. Ice, heat, yoga breathing and meditation will have to stand in for pain relief. So, this saga will be continued.
