Himself invades the home territory!

Good day to all! --a new, very cold day here in the north-
It is minus 30 C --way too cold to walk a dog!

This is my 2nd attempt to blog--
Himself is home you see.
And he won't stop talking to me---
His office called--suggested they add his patients to to-morrow-
He is happy about that, and said, "Well, now we can go to town and ---etc etc etc--"

"No!", I had to tell him---" I have to things to do in the house--people to see--I can't just galavant after a Holiday weekend"--and then he plunked himself down--BESIDE ME HERE, and chatted about this and that----
"You must get out of here--I can't concentrate," I told him---

This man has worked his whole life--- 90 years ---
I think he needs some hobbies---
"Go and do some exercise," I suggested---
I can see that he might need some direction here--- gardening might be an option--if it were SPRING!

Life does change as one ages-- women are used to that----
Now , what kind of hobby can I get this man into--
-Lord love Duck!--before I lose my mind!

Everyone warned me that I would hate retirement because he would be under foot all the time. It's not like that at all for us because he has a hundred projects that he rotates between. Not much every gets FINISHED, but he's always busy working on something.

I feel for you! My husband works, but AT HOME! He teaches online courses for the DOD in his office in the basement. And he is always coming up and asking me if I want to run to lunch, or to Lowes, or the Post Office, with him. Because he doesn't have a "regular" work day anymore. This has been going on for 3 years and still hasn't figured out that I DO have things I do on a regular basis. He's making me nutz!

I'm starting to think he needs a workplace away from the house again!

When you've been working all of your life, it is hard to give it up and learn to relax. Maybe you could make a job board and post it. Then he'd have something to do! LOL

Definitely relatable!!! It has been quoted "retirement is to little money and too much husband" I love my husband, but sometimes I would love to gag him. emoticon

Funny - I can go for several days without talking to the other half, and then...….all of a sudden it's almost a non-stop talkathon! And then there are the times when he will sit beside me when I'm seriously working/surfing with the laptop, or (even more strangely) sit in a chair in the main room while I veg out with the tube (and often with a channel on that I'm pretty darn sure he doesn't care about)……..go figure...….he's been retired for over 10 years now - I'm the worker with no interest in traditional retirement......I've heard all the comments about "be grateful you have him around" and I do truly get that, but still...…..it can be frustrating...…...

I really hope it warms up soon, so that you and DH can both get outside and out of the house. Meanwhile, I hope he can find something interesting to do inside, for both your sakes.

I thought he retired? Why did his office call him about his patients?? I guess I missed that "memo". I wonder what we will do when my husband officially retires...

Yet another change life has thrown at you. I enjoy my alone time. My DH can't tolerate quiet and I hate noise. I supposed that's life, always adapting, making adjustments. Oh well, they have to sleep sometime.

I guess many will tell you that you should be happy that your husband still wants to talk with you, but I can understand. I like to have my own space and peacefulness once in a while, my adult son loves to talk! We just have to love them and take a deep breath!! It sure is cold out your way!! I was outside this morning at 6:30 A.M. and I was freezing at 44 degrees!! I was layered with many sweaters, etc., so much that I almost couldn't zip up my winter jacket!! Stay warm! :-)

I understand you girl. My husband wait until I am doing something to come in and chat. I may be putting clothes in the washer, or folding clothes, cleaning the bathroom or just making the bed. No he do not help out, he just stand or sit there and talk. I may be on the computer trying to answer a blog and here he come with something he could have told me earlier. Praise God I am glad to have him but I need time for me beside shoveling snow, paying the bills, making sure he takes his medication, cleaning the house and cooking. I am sure LeanJeans meant no harm for those who have lost their plus one and that she is seriously grateful for himself. Her blog is a testimony to that. Maybe he can take up reading when he retires. Audible book is good to listen to. emoticon emoticon

My husband is really in to gardening. He grows stuff in the the spring and summer. Come winter he is studying catalogs and planning his next garden. He also has his tablet and is on it a lot. He can be somewhat busy helping me out. I have medical problems that make house work difficult. I am in my 60's and hubby just turn 70. He retired about 10 years ago due he had some health problems that have gone away with a good diet and exercise.

Books?? Solitaire on the computer?? Maybe he can take up cooking or dog grooming as a hobby.....um...no, forget I said that! There must be something though!

Actually it is kind of sweet that he just wants to spend time with you. I know that his retirement is going to throw a big wrench into the workings of your life if he can't find ways to occupy himself.

It will happen, my goodness 90 years - and most of them working years....he has a big adjustment to make.
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon because you need lots of them!

Husbands, sigh! Can't live with them or without them! Mine looks at the computer all the time (no shopping channels) . I don't know what hobbys to suggest as they usually choose one or not. All the exercise ones are out of bounds due to him being wheelchair bound but we get along as best we can. It is not easy. He used to help a lot with cleaning too but that is not possible any more. But I'd miss him so much if he were not here. This is not easy. emoticon

Poor dear, you're gonna have to grin and bear it. Give him some chores to do like clean the bathroom, the windows, do the laundry, etc. Cause I can see you're gonna have a BLAST when he retires.

Himself needs a hobby or maybe some friends to spend some time with.

I know you are very blessed to still have Himself, but he does need a hobby before he retires. My husband makes it fine when he can do things outside, but when he can't, he gets bored very quickly. He doesn't have any kind of inside hobby. He's just not interested in reading, painting, drawing, or doing anything like that, so he watches a lot of TV.

I can relate to that Lynda. A Hobby for him is good idea, maybe Bird Watching with a Book and Binoculars, to keep a list of all the different ones, in your area that he would see. My DH loves woodworking and oil painting. He loves to spend a long time at the Dollar Store, if you have one in your local town...You thought of.Gardening is a great alternative, but not until spring in your area, if you have a place in your home or garage to grow some Seedlings to plant with a grow light ...Good luck finding something that he is interested in.

Himself needs help to find himself! Take time to help him Lynda. You'll thank yourself.

Inspite of all, both of you are interested and want to be a part of each others life. What a blessing! Mine just sits and/or asks me to do things for him....when I am around. Just house mates. You are so blessed, hon! You have laughter in your life with him......grant frustration....that goes with a lifetime of togetherness. Keeps things from getting boring. Go give him a hug and kiss.....just because you can. Also, it will keep him guessing as my mom use to say. LOL

I know he can drive you crazy but you will miss that if he's not there. I miss mine every day and wish I could go back and change some things.... like not working so much and spending more time with him. Find a together project, put together jig saw puzzles... I have many framed ones in my home that DH put together and they made great gifts for the grown kids too. Especially precious now that he is gone. Time with loved ones is precious, make the most of it.

Please be happy you still have him to talk to. My husband passed away October and I sure wish I could sit here and talk with him. He was my soulmate and I miss his terribly. You need to enjoy life with Himself, you can always blog another time.
