Why I started and Why I will not give up

I started on this journey on March 2009 because I had a borderline ovarian mucinoma. It was the size of a grapefruit. I had to see the doctor regularly for checkups as it was stressed how close to cancer I had. When I was told I was morbidly obese at one of these checkups, I had to take a strong hard look at myself. I'm an elementary health teacher and mother of two. What kind of role model was I being to them? I didn't even have the first clue about nutrition, and yet I had to teach it. I brought in a nutritionist friend who taught it to my students, and having her speak to them on their level really opened my eyes. That's where I started. I've been on Sparkpeople since 2010. I was in the morbidly obese range, unhealthy, and looked at people like they were crazy for the exercise they do...
Now, I am one of those CRAZY people.. and I don't think I'm crazy at all. I feel healthy, have a lot more energy, and work at being a good role model to my family and my health students.
Being here on sparkpeople has helped me stay accountable to myself. I've found support, motivation, and encouragement to reach my goals. I'm also a part of the BLC (Biggest Loser Challenge) here on SP. I'm now in the healthy range for my BMI.. not perfect, but I'm a work in progress on this journey.
I will not give up because I do not want to return to the unhealthy person and non-role model I was before. I feel so healthy, and I don't like the alternative at all.
