I Have No Idea How I Did This Before...

When I put my mind to this in 2012, I lost 90 pounds in 2 years and then kept it off for an additional 2 years. Now it seems like I can't make it a week or two without falling off the wagon. At one point this month I was down as much as 4 pounds and now I am pretty much back to where I started. I have looked back on blogs, I know all the basic habits that allowed me to lose the weight the first time, but for some reason I can't just stick to it. When I look back on all the progress I made sometimes it feels like it wasn't even me. Logically I know it was me but it seems so long ago and it's just like I don't even recognize the girl that was strong enough to do this way back when.

    I believe in you! It's so hard to make the healthy choices, but you know you can do it. Don't be discouraged by a slip, instead try to channel it into a better workout to get it off.

    Yes. What they all said. And I don't think anyone who's lost significant weight was able to by-pass this stage. I believe we all need a deeply personal and powerful reason for changing our bodies. The first time you did this because you used weight to keep you from doing fun things. AS you began doing those fun things you realized weight had never kept you from doing them so now, you have a life full of fun things. But within you are Other Reasons why you want to change your body - and when you find them - they, too, will help motivate you to act.

    As time goes on you will discover more wonderful things about you that you can embrace. And those motivations will wane and you'll find other motivations. Just never stop seeking - because who knows WHAT you'll find when you go looking.

    Yeah, I originally lost about 75 pounds after my lap band procedure, and 50 more with SP . Since my low point, I regain 25-30. I’m walking the pups more consistently than I did at the beginning with my bigger dogs, started yoga recent, and have lost about 11 pounds ... the tricks that worked at the beginning aren’t as effective... just ate 2 cups of ice cream (still w/in my nutritional goals, but ... ) I’m finding it harder to get my daily protein so I’ve been drinking Boost before bedtime. SP keeps telling me I need more calories, but then my carbs and fat get skewed. Sigh Jeesh.Just do what you can, sweetie.

    As has been mentioned, that was m first thought is that you're not the same person you were back then That's part of getting older . . . . no not OLD, LOL, just older. We learn lessons, we learn different ways of doing things, life is different. All that makes it difficult.

    But just as you found away before, you will again. It's, as also mentioned, a matter of being ready.

    I have faith in you. You can do this.

    Man, can I relate! I think we all can. I dropped my weight and had stagnated for months when I found out I was pregnant. Now, with this baby, I'm still stagnated, just a smidge higher than I was before I got pregnant, and it is SO HARD to get it to come down. I finally saw a little good movement over the weekend on the scale.

    I wish I knew what it was. I have a blog brewing about this....hmm...

    I soooo get it!

    I reached maintenance in 2011, but, gained some pounds about 15 months ago; and let me tell you, it has been an ordeal trying to get those pounds off. THANKFULLY, just over the past month the pounds are starting to drop. Yay! Turning flips!!!

    I did all the things I did before, plus some, but the scale was not budging. The one thing I had to come to grips with is that is my body has changed from back then to now. I had to reduce my calorie intake much more than I was initially thinking to make the scale move. I used to be able to loose in the low 1,400 calorie range, but, I had to drop to the low 1,200 range and remain consistent in that range in order to see the scale move. I weigh-in on Fridays, so hopefully the scale will be about where I've been striving for it to be when I weigh-in this coming Friday.

    Yup. Same here. I lose 10 pounds and then . . . Um, well. I know it’s the carbs. I need enough protein and fiber, plus get those veggies in with just one or two fruits. But knowing what I need to do and staying away from bread and pasta and chocolate (there I said it) seems impossible. Sorry, no answers here.

    emoticon it is hard, isn't it... we've been there, done that, and for the life of us can't feel/remember how - and aren't sure where to begin. again. But I hear the spark of frustration and desire in your voice today - so try to hold onto and nurture it... ask yourself, what can I do today, right now, this choice to help myself... and keep making those itsy bitsy choices all day long as you seek, find and build an approach that works for you, here, now, today! you can do it again! onward :)

    Six years ago, you were a different person. Since then life has happened, bad habits are harder to shake the older we become...they’ve had longer to become ingrained. Sigh. What was then, is not now. You’re older and wiser and need to embrace components of healthier living that you’re willing to do like FOREVER. Of course they’re tweaks, adjustments, resets along the way. I’m just never willing to begin something that I’m unwilling to live with. Quick fixes won’t bring lasting change. Think hard on the truths you know. Come up to speed and embrace solid, positive changes & choices that empower you. Bottom line for me: all calories are not created equally, nutritional content matters...fitness & nutrition need to be besties...I didn’t come this far, to only come this far. If this were easy, there’d be no need for Spark people. More sighs, one choice at a time...you can do this.

    You're still there...Sometimes we need to change what we do because what worked then may not work now. What was your motivation then and what's different now? You are the same person inside, but things change... You can do this...find your experiment of one!!

    I have been struggling lately too. Exercise and strength training daily, just to blow it on food later. I hope that you have a great day today. I am going to try and stay focused too. One day at a time. Best wishes!

    I think you were just ready to do it. I couldn't do this weight loss for all my adult life until...I decided I would follow sparkpeople coaches advice. I fortunately live with my sister Becky (Thoms1) who came along on this journey with me. We both ate the same foods and we both exercised at the same time. She would suggest what we would eat and I would find a spark recipe. I could not have done this journey without her and the same goes for her. Stephanie I wish I could wave a magic wand and make it so. I will pray for you.

    There is something that is getting in your way. I have never been perfect but after I ate what it was that I felt compelled to eat and tracked the whole mess I never considered it a negative. It is what it is and I got on with my new way of eating doing the best I could and can. Fortunately for me after "pigging out" (my term for me), it never continued beyond that dinner or evening.

    Sweetie I hope you can get on track and stay there but don't beat yourself up. I love you and want you to succeed!

    One step at a time. For me I find I need to give in alittle so that I don't give in alot. If I have a food that isnt so good I stick to the portion on the package or make sure I share with someone else. You can do this... message if you need!
