Hike Planning and Hype
Tuesday, July 31, 2018
I can't believe I'm only 4 sleeps away from setting out on my FIRST EVER solo overnight hike!! I'll be covering roughly 45 kms over two days (if all goes according to plan) with my night spent at a sweet little campground roughly halfway.
I've learned how to set up my hammock-tent (think hammock with attached mosquito netting) and examined my route and planned the points for collecting water as well as some special rest stops. There's a sweet little cafe in a town the trail I'll be taking crosses through and I'm very much looking forward to that, as well as just seeing all the lovely farm fields and forests and scenery I'll be lucky enough to walk through.
I've already proved to myself that I can go the distance, but it's still a daunting thought. I'm also incredibly excited. There's nothing like setting foot on that trail on a fresh summer morning and knowing that by evening I'll have crossed several small townships and made my way a whole 25 kms while carrying everything I need on my back. I'll be bringing a book with me so I can swing happily in my hammock and rest my legs in the evening - I even have a handy dandy battery pack with light attachment so I can read in the dark and keep my phone charged so I can post here because I'm a Spark fanatic who has to log in every day :D
Now my evenings after work are largely spent collecting all the little things I'll need so I'm not running around like a headless chicken Friday evening haha... Never leave things until the last minute, that's a guarantee of stress and forgetting things!!
I'll be certain to post photos from my trip and write all about it.
