Having the good fortune to run across the blog by PHEBESS, I've been reading it from the beginning, gaining marvelous insights with lots of smiles and laughs along the way. I just read an entry describing the humorous result of being splashed by a blue mixture of ingredients used in a mural project. Instant Smurf!

Wish there had been a picture of that!

It brought me a great flashback. Early in our married life, we rented a TINY (hmm - is "TINY" an euphemism?) cottage in a walnut orchard, so small the bathroom was actually the hall to the bedroom. The kitchenette only had a couple of cupboards, one of which, unfortunately, was directly above the stove. Even more unfortunate was my placing the bag of flour there.

One day, in a rare moment of domesticity, I decided to do some baking. As I grabbed the full flour bag, it slipped through my fingers, crashing on the stove and exploding like a mini nuclear bomb, enveloping me and the entire front room in a soft, white mushroom cloud. I stumbled into the bathroom, feeling my way to the sink where I stood trying to scrape enough off my eyes to open them.

As things slowly came into focus, I saw a live version of Casper the Ghost (only with scary red-rimmed eyes) blinking back at me. The transformation was complete. I began to laugh, hysterically, until little dough balls began to skitter down my cheeks.

Well, cleaning up that mess was a lot less funny. I'm sure even up to the day the owner came to bulldoze that sweet little cottage to build a McMansion, there was still a "mysterious" white substance hidden in cracks and crevasses.

Wish there had been a picture of that!
