I haven't blogged in over 3 years; obviously, it's not something I'm inclined to do. I belong to a Challenge team though, and we've been encouraged to blog this week and invite folks to join the summer Challenge. (Invitation at the bottom of this blog.)

I got to thinking yesterday about how old habits die hard. Some say it takes 2 weeks to create a new habit, but I don't necessarily agree with that. While some new habits may indeed, come in just 2 weeks, my personal experience has been that it's more like 6 months to solidify a new habit. Maybe it depends on what old bad habit you're trying to break, and how motivated you are to change. And how many years (decades?) you've had that old bad habit.

I say this, because even though I can get on a roll with a new habit, that old bad habit seems to just be waiting for an opportunity to come back. The monkey may be off my back (so to speak), but he's still lurking in the bushes eager to pounce.

For example-- I had a good solid streak going, of tracking my food every day. And then I got put on a murder trial while on jury duty, followed by immediately getting really sick when the trial was over. I did not track through all that, and now I'm struggling to get back to tracking again.

That's one of the reasons I joined the Challenge. Even though I've been in maintenance for a while now, it holds me accountable by requiring a weigh-in every week, plus there are "Living the Good Life" activities each week, to help reinforce the healthy habits that have kept me from gaining the weight back.

This is your invitation! Are you looking for a way to get fit, lose weight, and have fun along the way? Check out the 2018 Summer 5% Challenge! Great blog.
Do you think the murder trial/stress cause you to become sick?
I ask only because I hate anything that has to do with the courthouse.
I will try and join the challenge you have shared. Have a great weekend. emoticon emoticon

You and I both do not like to blog but you did a great job! I agree that some habits are harder to break than others. Yet the 5% teams keep encouraging me to keeping pushing. emoticon emoticon
