Happy

Saturday, March 03, 2018

After writing my last blog, several Sparkers got the impression that I got a raise at work, and that's not true...I am a federal employee, and was sent home the day of the government shutdown, and was worried that I wouldn't be paid for that day, but I was. So, I didn't get a raise (I wish!). :P

Anyway, I'm so happy with my life. :'D I realized today how I wasted most of my life being unhappy (for various reasons). I don't ever want to be depressed again! Life is good, and God is good.

My sister hasn't given birth yet. She's currently in the hospital, and is set to give birth anytime now. I'm excited to become an aunt! :)

I'm thinking about finally trying online dating soon. It's weird, though, because when I was unemployed, I always said that I would do it when I got a job. Then I got a job, but then I said that I will do it once I'm settled in my new job. Well, it's been over 4 months now, and I haven't made any attempt to do so. :P I guess I'm just tired from work, and like to just stay home on the weekends (rather than go out like normal people my age). Oh well.

A good part is because I still live with my parents. I feel embarrassed about that, as I am 31, but I'm disabled, and they are my support system. Also, even though I pay rent to them, I have been able to save a good amount in only 4 months of working, and I feel a great sense of accomplishment because of that. :) I'm trying to save money so I can buy a new car in cash. Getting my own place right now is out of the question financially, as LA rent is WAY too expensive. I'm not willing to live with non-family members as well.

I am starting to learn how to cook!!! I have perfected making this pasta dish, and am working on making the perfect quesadilla now. :) I have realized that cooking is such a useful talent! I really enjoy taking my leftovers to work, as I have become sick of sandwiches. :P I try to bring lunch to work as much as possible to save money.

I don't buy jewelry, clothes, electronics, etc; I basically just buy the essentials, and the only non-essentials I spend money on is eating out. I eat out for lunches at work only if I have nothing good to bring from home, but I enjoy it. I'm subscribed to a YouTuber named Amberlynn Reid, and she said that we don't work just to pay bills--we work to also enjoy life, by spending money on what we want, and I completely agree with that (to a certain extent).

My weight has been around 165 pounds for several years now. It's interesting, because when I was 185 pounds, I thought I was so fat, but now that I'm 165 pounds, I still feel extremely fat. I only have 20 pounds to lose at this point, but it seems so impossible. I want to lose weight, so I can look my best, and (of course) be healthier, and thus not have to take so many medications. I need to drop the sodas, juices, and junk food.

Also no shame in living at home. It's cultural to not, but I think it's actually wise a lot of the time.

I was matched with my husband on eHarmony...after I had already met him in real life!! I had already decided I would never marry him, so I got rid of him from my suggestions. A year and a half of friendship later I realized he was amazing.

You've accomplished a lot in the past year, by getting a job you like...that's huge! I'm happy for you! And learning to cook is a great way to save money, and also better for your health, since you can control the ingredients. On-line dating wasn't around when I was young, so don't have any advice about that. I would just say, keep your eyes open. You never know when you may meet someone nice...on the bus, at the store, through mutual friends. I think at this stage of life, it's best to just meet lots of people and make friends, explore hobbies, learn new things, etc. Have fun!

I read a book when I was young called, "Your Money or Your Life." It talked about looking at money as your time, and to spend it wisely. So...think of what you make an hour, and then how many hours of work it would take for you to pay for something. If you make $10 an hour, would a $80 pair of jeans make you that much happier than a $20 pair of jeans, if you had to work an entire day to pay for them, instead of two hours, for example, when they both basically do the same thing. It taught me not to spend money to impress others (like brand name things), and to use coupons, discounts, etc. And to pay cash, to avoid interest fees. Living at home is a great way to save money, I think, as long as you are happy there. You are doing great!

I am so happy that you like your job. That means a great deal in this day and age. Keep perfecting your cooking skills. It is fun to do something such as that. It can also be a way to de-stress.

I weigh just a little less than you. I know it is definitely not easy to drop the pounds. But it is doable. Good luck with your online dating sites. Be careful. I will tell you that my youngest daughter is married (4.5 year) to her online boyfriend. It is possible to find a special person out there.
