Teaching My Son

My son has been struggling with his weight and has a heart condition. The doctor told us last year he needed to lose weight. I believe I am a pretty good role model with my own eating habits and the food we cook in our home, but being divorced and having him go back and forth, he doesn't always have consistency. Not to mention, he's a teenager, need I say more?! I have always been very involved, but decided I needed to take more of a role in guiding him to good food choices. I decided to purchase meal prep containers and get to work. I have been spending every Saturday cooking clean, healthy meals to prep for the week and wouldn't you know, he's actually sticking to it and liking it! He's lost 10 pounds in 4 weeks. On the days he's with his dad, he brings his meals with him.

Clean eating can be a challenge as we live in our fast paced worlds. I know it is for me, but I work at doing it as much as possible. And getting my son on board has been quite the task, but now that he's seeing results I can tell he is excited. And I am thankful he is taking his health seriously.

This weekend I made a veggie only organic soup. It was filled with brussel sprouts, celery, peppers, onions, cabbage, kale, zucchini, and other veggies and to my surprise both my kids loved it!! So much so that I needed to make another batch. This change has actually even sparked my hubby to think twice before eating that extra cookie or the bag of chips. It's been good for all of us.
