My goal for 2018 is developing healthy routines that make me feel beautiful and strong.
Each month, I pick a keystone habit that I work on for the month. A keystone habit is one that is correlated with other good habits. So for example, developing an exercise habit can then lead you to drink more water, eat healthier, wake up earlier, etc. I felt really convicted about the power of this from the amazing book Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. I highly recommend this book! It is life changing.
For the month of January, my goal is to develop a weekday morning routine. I have a hectic job, and want to go into work feeling calm, centered and ready to take on the day.
The habit loop that I'm trying to build for January is:
Wake up with first alarm (no snoozing) --> Brush teeth and say my weekly affirmation --> Grab water & head to my yoga mat for a 10 min session -> Do my quiet time for 10 min --> Shower --> Get dressed and if I want, add basic make-up (eyeliner, mascara, lipstick).
Every step of this loop is a point. Any other healthy habits that I do (track food, exercise, floss, etc also gets me points) Every 100 points gets me a pre-determined reward. I have a list of classes, books, make-up tools to choose from. I also may sometimes include an incremental increase in a healthy habit.
As of yesterday 1/28, I've reached my first 100 points!
My reward is a highlighter brush for my make-up kit, and an increase in daily water intake from 4 cups to 5 cups/day.
Feeling really excited for my healthy life journey!
