Happy New Year!
Tuesday, January 02, 2018
This year, I got a jump start on my resolutions by starting work on them in November! I'm already making progress, and I've had a chance to get a handle on what works for me and what doesn't so I know what I'm doing going forward.
I also have the opportunity to join in on Yoga With Adriene's TRUE yoga journey. A 30-day YouTube based program which is being released at the perfect time to get the new year off to a great start. I've been excited to get started on it. First practice is...today now cause it's 1am and I should be sleeping lol.
I have lots of tiny goals this year, and a few bigger ones. Starting with continuing my modest fitness goal of 10 min/day. I noticed with my daily yoga vids and my short strength workouts, I was reaching 20 min consistently so I upped my goal to maintain my current activity level.
I really want to be able to do real pushups, even one, and gorilla workout didn't get me there, so I'm trying a different approach- doing 2-3 sets of modified pushups to failure on upper body days. Once I get to 2 sets of 35, I'll move to the next step. First set today went to 21.
I weighed in today and found that I've already dropped the small weight gain from over xmas and I'm back to my last pre-holiday weight. Onward and...downward?!
I got my planner sorted for the year with a new fitness goals chart and I updated my mood tracker format to do away with the colour coding and use symbols so I'm not wasting time looking for the right colour pen. I also added room for notes in the margin and a table for charting any unusual symptoms and things I may want to talk to my doc about. It's not as pretty as last year's but it's much more practical and less of a chore.
My word of the year is "consistency". It's something I've always struggled with and now I'm doing everything I can to make it fun and simple to be consistent with the habits that matter most. I'm aiming to achieve consistency in a few areas of my life through meeting my fitness minutes goal, logging my food, practicing language learning daily, reading a little every day, and by tackling small amounts of chores every day.
I'm also hoping to foster connections with my family and my community by making social interactions a priority and spending more quality time with my son.
This year's all about being consistent with healthy habits and making myself and ny quality of life a priority!
