Can we talk about the miracle that is soup?

So I had some leftovers around, including some broth from the chicken I roasted the other day. The obvious thing to do is make soup. I started throwing in what's in the house and needs using up, plus whatever I thought might go well. I started to notice some calorie heavy things going in. Leftover potatoes, chick peas, a LOT of leftover chicken, whole milk. I'm thinking ok, this'll be one of those "a little goes a long way" soups. So I run it through the sparkpeople recipe calculator, carefully measuring everything, with extra attention to the more calorie dense items. Still comes out at less than 300 cals for a big 2-cup bowl full. So I topped it with a generous serving of parmesan and I'll still probably need to down a protein shake to get my 1200 cals for the day. Moral of the story is: If your goal is to eat real, whole, unprocessed foods, for goodness sake, don't waste your scraps and leftovers cause there's at least one more whole, real, delicious, nutritious, and satisfying low calorie meal in there.
