I know the title of my blog is every day is a blessing, but let's face it, every breath we can take on this earth being healthy is a blessing.
However, that is not to say, that every day is going to be filled with bliss and happiness, it can't be quite frankly, but think about this statement.

So what is your attitude about weight loss and maintenance? It isn't easy to lose and it isn't always to maintain either. Why do I bother? It is so much easier to eat what I want and as much as I would like to each day. It doesn't really matter anyway does it? Yes, it sure does! Our health matters. Our growing old years matter. Our ability to get around each day matters. The way our heart beats and the way our blood pumps through our body matters.

This is just cute and makes me smile. But dogs can help you with exercise as each day they go to the door and say "come on, it is time to take me for a walk!" or maybe they are thinking they are taking their human for a walk. Whatever the case, they are great exercise buddies to some of us!
Today is your day! Do you need to start over? Do you need to just eat healthier today? Do you just need to keep on maintaining the way you have for the last few months, the last year, the last 5 years? Whatever the case, every day will not be stellar. There will be gains, more than losses usually, but that is ok, that is life's way to reminding you that we can only eat so much and stay where we want to be.
And when the weight goes a little higher than you want, well, it is time to get back to basics and back on the band wagon of tracking and exercising a little more if you can.
Don't let yourself down. You are too important and to wonderful not to put the effort into the journey.
Today I will get my steps in. Today, I will eat healthy. Today I will be joyful and encouraging to everyone around me. Today I will be thankful! Today, I will be the best that I can be.
I will never be "skinny" but that is ok, I just want to be fit!
Remember that you are beautiful just they way you are. Nobody knows your struggles in life like you do, but remember that you are also very strong and you can do what it takes to be healthier. Do it for you. Do it because you believe in yourself.
It won't be easy, and even maintenance is a journey of dedication and determination.
I work in a very busy hospital where I get many many steps in per day, but I try to start each morning with an additional walk through the skyway and hallways before I start my day. I passed a coworker the other day and she was bringing a patient back to the department and she told the patient " she is my supervisor and she is out for her morning walk. We think she is a little crazy for getting in even more steps than she will get when she starts her day!" The patient agreed. When my coworker told me this, I told her how invigorating that morning walk is, how it brings me such joy and gets my tone set for the entire day. I pray for all of you, and for my family, for my friends, and for all the patients that I will care for on that day and all the days past. It is a great time for thoughts and reflections.
Just do your best. That is all we can do each day. Thank you all for being part of my life and part of my journey. What a blessing every single one of you are to me.

ps on a funny note, my fitbit vibrated while I was writing this blog to remind to get up and get my steps in for the hour so I had to stop for a few minutes and run around the house! Yep, I am a little crazy but I wouldn't want it any other way!!
