My First Week Of Work

Sunday, November 05, 2017

I apologize for not being active on Spark these days...last week was my first week of work for my new job. I am in the process of being trained, and it has been overwhelming, and stressful. But overall, though, I like my job. :) Almost all of the people that I work with are wonderful, which I am grateful for. I just have no time now! :P I'm up at 5 am, and I come home at 6 pm, and then I have to go to bed at 9 pm (since I have to get up early the next day). So, I really only have about 3 hours of free time each day, and I still have to eat dinner, do my chores, etc. But please note that I HAVE been reading my Sparkblog subscriptions--I just haven't had time to comment on them. So, sorry about that.

I'm so glad, because I have this Friday off, since Saturday is a holiday. Yay for 4 day work weeks! :)

Also, I have the option to work 9 hours a day, and get every other Monday or Friday off, which I am highly interested in, because this way, I can schedule all my doctor appointments on my days off, so I won't have to take time off of work. I have A LOT of doctor appointments, as I am not healthy. This type of work schedule is called a "Compressed Work Schedule" for the federal government.

Anyway, working full time has been kind of a shock to me, as I have been in school all my life until this point. I am slowly adapting to sleeping less, and having no free time. :P

I am so excited for Christmas!!! I don't know if I will go Black Friday shopping on Thanksgiving this year (which is a tradition), because I have to wake up early the next day. But I'll probably go Black Friday shopping on the actual Friday after work, so that's good. I'm already listening to Christmas music! :P

Since November is the first full month I will be working, I gave my mom $500 on Friday for this month's rent; I usually give her $300, but since I am working now, I told her I can afford to give her more, and she was shocked, and extremely grateful. I'm so happy! :D

Sounds like your job is working out well. It is a hard adjustment to the schedule, but you'll get used to it, and figure out how to get all your important off-work-time stuff done.

I always hate starting new jobs, but before you know it it will be all so familiar. It is good when you have good coworkers. Years ago I had that work schedule with every other Friday off. It worked out great because the way the trains ran, I was able to catch a train 15 minutes earlier in the morning and 15 minutes later at night to make up the hour. My usual trains got me to work too early and I had to wait around at night.

So happy the job is working out. I'd do the 9 hour days too. Loved 3-day weekends. You are a generous daughter - very good.

Congrats on the new job. Just make a schedule to fit exercise and meal prep is the best way to eat healthy.

I'm glad you like your coworkers. You'll settle into the routine and role within a couple months and it'll all be old hat to you a year from now. Congrats again on the job.

I love finally working for a company with a flexible schedule. Commuting 5 days a week was murder on schedule, appointments, stress, gas, wear & tear on the car, etc. No reason to be at a desk somewhere 40+ hours a week when I can work just about anywhere or anywhen and still be as effective.

... lol. the hard part is supporting our clients who have flexible schedules. We know nothing gets done in the summer with them on fridays because they're all off due to flexing (except the few off on monday due to covering everyone else being off on fridays). It makes me happy, though... as does hearing peoples' kids crying in the background of a conference call. No reason we can't be home to care for them, we're still getting work done.
