A Mouse, Irma and Me!

Every year my friend asks me to go to Disney World with her and her daughter. Every year after a consideration of about 2 seconds, I agree. This year we went in early September. We usually go at the end but not this year. We were there from September 2-12. This included a 2 day extra stay thanks to my friend, Irma.
The trip to Disney World was wonderful. On the 7th things started to go badly for us. During this whole trip everyone kept an eye on Irma. We did not watch the news at the resort as my friend's daughter has a form of Autism and we didn't want to worry her. We kept up to date thanks to our trusty cell phones. As Irma came closer to Florida, my friend asked me if it was ok if we left early. I wasn't thrilled that we would have to leave earlier, but for our safety I thought it was best. She called the airline and was promised a call back. As we were eating lunch a text went out that our original flight had been cancelled. Before this happened she had seen that there were seats available on a flight for Saturday. After this happened those seats were booked. I took her daughter and we went to see a show and do some shopping while she spoke to the airline. We met back up and my friend was crying that we could not get out. So we booked another flight and then made arrangements with the resort to stay longer, which was easy to do as people were cancelling their reservations.
On Friday we went to Epcot and the park was empty (for the most part.) We had a ton of fun and were able to experience a lot of things without a ton of people. On Saturday we went to the Magic Kingdom. Once again , the park was empty. We did not have to wait in line to get in or go through security. We were able to walk on to rides that would have had a line for at least 40 minutes. Restaurants were empty and the shops were not crowded. I loved it! Disney World closed on Saturday night and did not reopen until Tuesday. We went back to the resort to await the arrival of Irma.
On Sunday, we were asked to stay in the resort. The food court was open with a limited menu. The resort also had activities for us to do. Chip and Dale came for a visit. Disney made bagged lunches and we purchased some for dinner. Disney also showed Disney movies for the duration of this time. I was able to catch up on a lot of movies. We made it through the day and then Irma came. It rained for more than 15 hours and it steadily became heavier. It rained 4 inches before I stopped keeping track. Then the winds picked up. In Ohio, we get some wind that moves the trees, but nothing like this! I woke up in the middle of the night to the strangest calm I had ever experienced. Then the most horrible wind I have ever heard came through. I later found out the eye went through Orlando. Irma finally moved on and we were allowed to leave the rooms. Our resort did not have a lot of damage just a lot of tree branches down. I made it through my first hurricane! We left on Tuesday. The Orlando airport was empty. We were the only people in line for the TSA. I am sure that is a sign of the Apocalypse. We flew from Orlando to Newark and then on to Cleveland. I had never been so happy to see Cleveland before in my life.
I am home now and back to my regular routine. Thanks for all of the prayers from those of you who knew I was there.
