Roots and weekends

Monday, August 07, 2017

"You're going to be staying home, in town, for awhile now, right?" Honey asked after a month of weekend trips away. "Yeah Honey, I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon" I assured him. I hadn't plan on being away from home almost every weekend for a month :P The first weekend was a celebration of my bestie getting a divorce "girls' weekend". I would say the last five years he has been a complete jerk to her, controlling, cheating, legal issues....and then he headbutted her during an argument (complete shock!) She called the police and started the process of divorce.

Monday....back to the real world only to spiral out of control....news of my grandma (on my dad's side) died, peacefully in her sleep. I had just seen her and spent time back "home" with family, no intentions of flying soon *since takes alot for me to get on a plane. My dad offered to pay for my flights....and my oldest brother had a layover where we could take the three hour flight home together. By the weekend, I was home surrounded by family.....a celebration of her life and hearing crazy stories of my uncles and cousins growing up around her. My dad was the brother who stayed in the military and had his family....traveling every few years~and never close to home...so feel like we missed out on alot. One thing was guaranteed, visiting grandma's house.....all the relatives stopped by at some point LOL

I brought my swimsuit....my brother laughs because he did too~it's Summer, my dad has the pool open....and a killer handmade waterslide~of course, we are going to go swimming! My sister recently had a baby....love being able to spend time with her! She has grown so much in the six months since I've seen her emoticon She can't resist falling a sleep on my arm....not all she did on me while holding her LOL

I was home for a weekend.... my mom's sister had come to the funeral (she wanted some of my cousin to come, but they were too busy). She told me she was coming out to see my cousins who live kind of close to me....I drive by both of them when going to see my brother out in LA, I felt bad for not stopping by to see them. I told her if I had the days off would drive out...she was bringing on of my other cousins with her. I haven't seen any of them since I was around 13yrs old! The oldest cousin, Tommy, was surprised and glad I could make it down the mountain. Hey! how could I turn down BBQ and pool time?! He also has an 11 mos. son....adorable, and would go to any family member! I got surprised by the other cousin making the two hour drive from his place with his wife~ it was an incredible feeling having us all together. They hadn't had the easiest life....and their brother committed suicide shortly after my brother's death in a car accident (over a decade ago) emoticon

My Honey is always welcome to join my family, but he is a homebody and would rather stay home with the dog :( Turkey doesn't like car rides and has been having some health issues. We took him back to the vet~he has arthritis in hind legs....recently discovered enlarged Prostate. We are treating the inflammation, hoping to reduce the size, but we may be doing a biopsy in three months to see if it is Cancerous. Trying to not think about "the end" being near....and hoping to keep him happy and comfortable.

School starts this week....and Honey has gone from school district employee to a contracted employee from the AZ school for the deaf and blind. He had been a little worried and depressed stressing about the hiring transition. Apparently the school district knew of the changes at the end of the last school year but the actual HR people didn't start working on the hiring process until about two weeks ago! And they wanted his transcripts?? he graduated 20 yrs ago! I was amazed they had them....and still have to purchase the originals, we just supplied a copy for now. When he starts back up to work....things will feel more back to normal~and best of all, without a roommate! First time in our relationship, we haven't had a roommate living with us and it's wonderful!
