Down two pounds with no walking

Tuesday, July 11, 2017

The scale did go down some this past month, two pounds. Since the heat index most days is 100, and very humid even in the mornings and evenings, venturing out isn't happening.

I do water my tomato plants that for the most part are doing well, with lots of tomatoes set on and growing, and more flowers, too. My pepper plants have flowers and one sweet pepper growing. The onions are trying their best, enjoying their raised bed. The garlic is pitiful but maybe by next year something will happen.

So all in all, doing okay. There is no mowing to do, with little rain, only a few hearty weeds growing in a brown lawn. The farmers are worried. Their crops may not make it.

I hope everyone had a safe 4th of July, and has hope for the coming days. I just read a friend's blog, and not everyone is healthy, which is sad.

Cooking is a real chore since my kitchen stays very hot, and a cold sandwich is easier to make. Cold tuna salad on a hot day hits the spot.

Congrats on the tomatoes! I would love to see some pictures!

I have a yellow pear tomato and cherry tomato happily growing in the front yard right now. I'm hoping that I will actually get to eat some-- since the last couple years have been ruined by squirrels/raccoons!

Yay on the two pound loss!!! I hear you about staying in when it's this hot out!! I go out shopping only in the early mornings and make my doctor appointments in the early morning too! Even so I'm incredibly grateful that our car has air conditioning! I fall prey to heat exhaustion way too easily!!

Congratulations on your weight loss! I'm with you, when it's hot, I don't go out either. Your garden seems to be doing better than mine. My beans kept getting eaten by something as soon as they came up. Squash and lettuce did well. I have one volunteer tomato plant that came up on it's own this year. I didn't plant any. I may try the beans again (third time's the charm?).

Do you have a crock pot? I use mine a lot in the summer so that I don't heat up my kitchen, or else make cold meals as you're doing.

    Stay cool!

Glad the scale is going in the right direction for you! Humid and hot is my least favorite weather. We're a little cooler in the low 90's. I have to get used to it because we still have two months of this to go. We're getting some rain, I don't know if it's enough.

Tomatoes are my favorite hot weather food. Lucky you have them in your garden. I tend to do more stovetop cooking in the summer, making things in batches and freezing it. I try to cook in the coolest part of the day. My kitchen doesn't seem to heat up the house as much as other kitchens I've had. Of course, having central air helps. We used to grill but we got rid of the grill. It's too hot to be standing outside cooking. I suppose I could use my crockpot, but sandwiches and salads hold a lot more appeal in this hot weather.
