Dear doctors

Tuesday, June 27, 2017

Dear doctors, why can't you listen to your patients for two minutes instead of assuming you know everything? There are too many patients that remain sick or who get dismissed and then find out that something serious was going on. Labs matter but they cannot tell you everything. Just because you haven't found something wrong, it does not mean someone is "fine" or that something is not wrong. Just because you went to school and wear a white coat doesn't necessarily mean you know a condition better than someone who lives through it. Stop blaming medical problems on depression or accusing it of being in someone's mind! Even though extra weight can cause issues, try to look beyond that sometimes. What if you were wrong? What if you dismissed someone's concerns and nearly cost them their life? If you have the gift and the mind to be a doctor, be a good one! I know there are good doctors out there. Excellent doctors even, but they are such a challenge to find. Nobody should walk out of a medical office feeling belittled or like they weren't heard. Patients do not expect miracles. They don't think they are free from doing work to improve their health. All patients want is for you to try. To be blunt, some of you need to try a whole lot harder!
