Butter Yourself Down

Friday, June 16, 2017

I am getting fat conscious. I looked up images of 1 and 5 pounds of human fat. Here is one pound.

I looked up human fat density, 0.91 gram per milliliter and dairy butter density, 911 grams per Liter. I think my math says move the decimal 3 to the left for liters to milliliters. So human fat and butter are the same density or physical size.

I am in the "tougher pounds to lose" steeper part of my journey. No more "its mostly water weight" scale joy. Now, hard-won progress is measured with a tape and with increased physical ability and the very cool word, "endurance." Now small scale decrements elicit a confident, satisfying head nodding "All right..!" moment.

If I am down only a half pound in a week, all I need to do is hold a cube of butter in each hand, look at them and say, "Gone!"

As a bonus, since I am doing weight work and exercise at the gym and getting my steps in and building a bit of muscle, every few weeks I can look at a third cube and say, "You're gone too. You've been replaced!"
