Healing well and my dependence on the scale.

Wednesday, April 19, 2017

My foot is healing very well. I got the stitches out on Monday and that felt heavenly! The swelling is going down and the bruising is very slowly fading. I couldn't ask for a better or nicer podiatry doctor! I can't exercise as of yet because when I don't have the foot elevated it tends to swell up and throb in tune to my heartbeat causing pain. I am a little disappointed because I thought I'd be able to start my chair workouts after the two week mark but I refuse to do anything to mess up the healing of everything so I'm learning patience. Meanwhile I am still keeping it elevated and icing it periodically throughout the day.

Another thing I can't do is weigh. I cannot stand without my foot in the boot to keep the foot from flexing. I'm in it for another four to six weeks and I did not realize how dependent I was on weighing at least every seven to ten days. By the time I get to get on the scale again it will have been six to eight weeks since I have weighed! I am hoping to at least maintain my weight if I can't manage to lose anything. I will be happy to see the same number on the scale as what I saw on the morning of the surgery.

Right now everything is just a waiting game and :

So glad to hear you are doing well. Can you weigh the boot and then weigh yourself and subtract the boot? Didn't know if that was an option or not. Hope everything else is working out. If you can't do chair exercise why not resistant bands or weights for the upper body?? Have a great weekend my friend. ~ Donna

Patience is good. Sometimes life takes us through things over which we have little control. In the meantime, focus on eating healthy. Hope you heal quicker than expected.

Strength to you, Jeanne! Maybe there are some arm movements & body stretches that you can do while seated or in bed? In any case, I know you're in this for the long term--these weeks will fly by & you will rebuild. emoticon

Happy to hear that you are healing well!
Having the routine of exercise and weigh-ins disrupted must be frustrating. Maybe some arm work and stretching would help.
There is always exercising the mind. Take this time to learn something new and put it into practice.
Of course you can always blog ;D

I agree with just about everything that has been said above, especially what MERMAIDLIFE said. Even if you do gain weight while you are healing, it will be so much easier to exercise and you will feel so much better all over after your foot heals. Isn't it amazing how intricately we are connected. If part of our body hurts,it affects the whole body!

You always have a great, positive attitude! I admire you for that! (And a few other things too. :) )

Just remember that healing well is priority one. The scale will say whatever it does when that time comes, you are in control, and it will be a great day when you can exercise as you want. Just delighted things are healing up as they should.

Y'know, even if you do gain over the next six to eight weeks... It's going to be so much easier to be active with a fully healed foot! Just focus on the healing, and the rest will follow. You got this!

Jeanne, I'm glad to hear that your foot is healing well and that you got the stitches out. It must be hard to be unable to exercise or weigh yourself. I would be impatient, too! I hope you find lots of things to do to occupy your time until you're fully mobile and active again. Hope you're getting plenty of help! Hang in there!

Glad you are on the recovery side and not still waiting for the surgery. It's hard to be patient and to be a patient...I struggle with both myself. Recovery can be an excuse to add even more anti-inflammatory foods to your diet. (You probably already eat all the right stuff, but maybe 1 new anti-inflammatory food is worth exploring). Wishing you a faster recovery and a pain free LIFE. (Wouldn't that be nice? I find the older I get the more used to pain I get as a fact of life :( ) Congrats on how far you have come!

Patience is a hard thing! We want it, but we don't want the tests to develop it! So life gives them to us anyway! You are doing great! Work your arms with some dumbbells, stretch and call it good! You are keeping toned up top, the lower will follow later! Keep your eating under control and you will see the next weeks fly! Hang in there! emoticon

Hi! Sweetie BLUEJAY! I'm going through having to stay off my knee. I realized I HAVE to lower my calories I'm down to about 800 a day, because I'm not moving, very much. ALL of theses calories are VERY high quality food. Many Veggies, lot's of water & more veggie proteins instead of meats like chicken. I had added almost 5 # in 2 weeks.... YIKES! So this is helping as I heal. PLUS I cant add weight it makes it harder for me to lift myself up.

Just thoughts of what I am doing as I heal. I AM much better today! I'm going to try to make deliveries for our beautiful business. It IS really needed. So I will take it VERY carefully! Using a cane!

Please remember what Yoda said in your blog! Happy healing! Maybe a coloring book will help, it sure does me! I'm not watching TV, too much negative energy & not good for my healing. emoticon

I had read this but didn't have time to comment. I am glad your foot is healing so well. I knew you would have pain when you put your down. It takes time. Keeping it elevated and iced is a life saver. Can't do your chair exercises because you can't keep your leg down. You can do upper body cardio and strengthening exercises. You got .

Sounds like your foot is getting better! That is awesome! You could not ask for any better than that. Patience is hard to master. But you can do this! As for everything else it will keep until you are able to get up and exercise. Until then my friend, keep the positive attitude and now would be a good time to take up a new or old hobby that you can do from a seated position.
God bless you and keep you on your journey! Have a fabulous day!

I understand where you are coming from .... and thank goodness, at least the waiting game is over for all that time you waited for surgery. And another milestone, getting the stitches out and the Doctor happy with the outcome. .... Whether we like it or not, we all have need of patience in various matters, so I do wish you the very best in the final stretch and may it pass quickly .......... emoticon

Patience with grace is what I pray for you my friend. It is hard, but you can do it. Be vigilant about your diet, and even without the exercise you will maintain or lose. Just be careful not to let boredom seep in and derail you. Maybe work on a hobby that requires both hands.

    Peace to you.
