Take Your Eyes Off the Obstacles and Look Where You're Going!

I've been watching a series on Netflix, Canada's Worst Driver, and over and over again, the drivers are told to take their eyes off the obstacles and watch the road where they want to go. Often the drivers don't follow through. They end up staring at the obstacles in their path and hit them every time. We go where our eyes are focused. I've found this true when using scissors to cut paper and fabric, and when drawing column lines on paper - when I look ahead to where I am headed instead of staring at where I'm at, my lines are a lot straighter and less wobbly.

The same is true in my weight loss journey. If my focus is on the obstacles, the reasons why I can't, the inconvenience and discomfort of exercise, the foods I shouldn't eat - I'm not going to get very far. I need to set my eyes on the goal and where I am headed and the reasons I want to be doing this. And keep my focus on those. Remind myself using self talk, photos, any method that replaces the repeating thoughts about the obstacles and food with where I'm going and why. I believe it really is true that we become what we think about.

    Great Blog Dee!

    I heard some time ago that our minds are not able to process (in a really concrete way) the word NOT.
    So - for example - if we focus on NOT eating pie, our mind just "hears" eating pie. Better - like you said - to instead change our focus to something concrete like making Aunt Betty feel more included.
