Spring is nearly sprung!

Sunday, March 19, 2017

Lord love a Duck--We made it!
Flip flops can soon come out---parkas put away---longer walks--crazy music--Ice shacks have to come off the lake----in fact, the sun does feel like there is some heat in it---BBQ's out of the sunroom, onto the deck----and the best of all--NO MORE SHOVELLING SNOW!
Time to assess the ol' body-----will it fit into "the bathing suit"?

On the home front here---It turns out, Tess, the long haired Shepherd with her very fat swollen ear, which is now flapping down, has what the vet described, as AURA HEMATOMA-----probably because Beau, the very rambunctious bad German boy--, as in dog, bit her ear, damaging a blood vessel which is now bleeding into her outer ear---causing it to droop over--

It means a trip , 2 hrs down the highway, to the vet, who I hope will drain this hematoma--

Last night for supper, I cooked a shrimp with Kale salad, dinner---
It took hours and hours to prepare---was expensive because of the shrimp ($10 a pound)-
and--------to me, it tasted terrible---
Isn't that always the way?--
It seems, anything new, just doesn't go over so well--
Himself never said a word-----at first----ate way more than me----
When he watched me struggling to eat at least the shrimp, then pitch the rest into the kitchen garbage-----he said, "I think I've had enough also!"
Bless his heart eh?

So my wonderful Sparkly friends--son #2 the Air Canada Pilot, is winging his way out to Halifax as I type--- Daughter and entourage is heading to an airport in California, heading home to Ohio----son #3, the Policeman , and his family are going to be driving back from a ski holiday in Michigan----and----- where is HIMSELF?-------still eating breakfast---has been now for almost 4 hrs---
ahhhhhh--the life of a man-----

Those Germans have it down, blame the cat! I hope Tess is helped at the vet's.

I buy bagged Fresh Express Spring mix and put it in the microwave for 3 minutes for a 7 oz. bag. It wilts it. I like it with butter and olive oil. Wilted kale is good with a little nutmeg and butter.

I had to laugh at Himself eating a 4-hour breakfast.

Hope the vet can fix Tess's ear. Poor baby. She is beautiful though. Love me some German Shepherds. I have one, too. Maddy is 11 years old and going strong (knock on wood!).

Poor dog! And poor you having to drive so far to the vet! Hope your dog gets okay quick.

Flip flops already?? I like the way you think. I can't believe that today we were in the 50's. Is Spring really here or are they teasing us?????

Oh Poor Tess. I'm sure the vet will drain the ear and start it back to healing.
Good for himself for following your lead and not complaining.
You're such a good woman, wife and mother. You take care of everyone including the pets, just remember to take care of you too.

My first German Shepard use to get hematomas in her ear too. The vet finally gave me a needle and syringe and showed me how to drain it! He figured I was a nurse so I wouldn't freak out! Anyways, good news it does resolve and doesn't hurt their hearing. Hope does as well as my Kimber did. Happy Spring emoticon

Hope Tess visit to the vet goes well. I'm not a kale fan unless it's in a smoothie. I have had it in a salad & it was ok, just a little bitter. Have a great week! emoticon

I need to try using kale. I ate it once at a friend's home and enjoyed it but as she described softening it to make it into a salad, I decided that it sounded like a lot of work. But I group up in the mid-west far from fresh sea food and my mother hated fish so I never learned to eat it. I will now eat mild fish like tilapia and salmon but avoid shrimp and shell fish. Guess I am just too much my mother's daughter.

Good luck with spring's arrival and with poor Tess. Sometimes being a loving pet owner can be very dispressing but they bring us so much joy.

Have a great week and no new snow! emoticon

Hopefully all of your warm weather wishes will come to fruition and soon! You all need some less snow and more warm sunshine! 4 hours of breakfast? Eating continuously? Poor Tess! So, what do you think? Beau playing and getting rough or Sushi defending herself from the wolf, aka Tess? My friend who just got a new baby German, as in dog, found Sadie had a good nip out of her ear from one of her brothers in the litter! You dont' need to put on your street walking shoes do you? Hee. Here's to a wonderful spring full of hope, sunshine, all animals getting along and no more shrimp and kale salads! I've been buying frozen shrimp to throw into salads and pasta dishes as I don't eat meat on Fridays during lent. Just boil and serve!

Glad Sushi wasn't the culprit! Hope the Vet can take care of Tess's ear and have her feeling better. I wonder what got into Beau?

As to your salad, I'll give you my shrimp and take your kale emoticon

So it wasn't Sushi after all! Poor Tess.

Spring brings such a promise of good things to come. Glad it's finally getting brighter. Has the snow been melting yet? Here's to Tess with lots of good wishes to her quick recovery. emoticon

emoticon Tess! I am glad Sushi was not the culprit. Lynda, I do not like kale... So, I would never mix it with expensive shrimp!

Speedy recovery to Tess! I feel bad for her ear! I hope the vet makes her all better! I have tried many, many new dishes that ended up in the garbage. My hubby is good Joe who tries to make the best of everything, but as you know full well that's not always something you can do. But still I like trying new dishes and stepping out of the norm for me.

The next one will be better. I don't do fish, but I know how darn expensive any type of seafood is. Well it was a lesson learned.

You take care, be safe, and stay healthy!

Poor puppy!! That's no fun for any of you. We had a place that sold a truly yummy kale salad. I've never made it but there must be a good recipe out there somewhere. Good man not making you feel bsd

I found a sweet kale salad I love at Sam's Club.$2.58 it includes a packet of dried cranberries & sunflower seeds. Also a pouch of dressing which I shove in fridge door for sons & use fat free honey mustard dressing. To make a meal I add diced chicken.I even bought a bag for my mom & she requested I get her 2 bags the next week.

Well, Sushi is off the hook! Poor Tess. She needs to stand up to Beau, although I know she won't. Hope she's doing better real soon.

Sweet that your husband didn't complain. Wow, shrimp is expensive! I'll steam kale in the microwave (it cooks so much faster), then add it instead of spinach to whatever I'm cooking. Marthastewart.com has some good kale recipes. The chicken and kale casserole is yummy.

Oh, when breakfast lasts over three hours it becomes lunch. 😉

Poor Tess. I admit I'm relieved that Sushi wasn't the guilty party. It's bad enough being the new-kid without extra strikes. Hope Tess gets better soon.

Yes, it's almost spring. Be sure to post pictures of before and after snow. I'm still amazed by all the snow you get.

Sending positive thoughts and prayers for your Tess! Glad to hear the sunshine is warming things up a bit for you - nothing like bright sunshine to lift your spirits and make you want to get active - kind of like coming out of hibernation! More activity means more pounds will soon be shed!

I am not sure about spring, sun is stronger but that cold wind never seems to go away and spoils the sunny days a lot. Daughter wanted to take the table and chairs out but not yet. Lots of icy spots yet but seeing grass and some bare sidewalks is nice. still need cleats where brandy and I walk.
When Brandy was a puppy she was always chewing on Alex's (her playmate) ears and my granddaughter had to take him to the vet as he had bumps all over his ears.
Thinking of taking a walk but I can see the wires blowing around so the wind is back again.
Hope Tess will be ok. Now Brandy and Alex run and run chasing over toys. Better outside in the big back yard.
Still thinking of WWs on line but have said i have already spent enuff money on trying to get rid of fat! I know what to do, just need self discipline. Have a good day everyone

emoticon I hate to cook but even worst, I hate to eat my own food! Poor Tess, but above all, poor you who have to take her for the procedure. emoticon emoticon Today, my most daring and difficult dog decided to hunt a porcupine. There he is barely able to close his mouth. No vets available on Sundays!

We have to smile to all the circumstances, no other remedy, emoticon

You're right about spring coming soon. We actually are on our second straight day of sunshine. That's the first time in more than six months - literally. Last week they weather folks said we had our eighth day of sunshine in 6 months. Life is better when the sun shines. Have a safe trip with Tess and take care of yourselves. Enjoy your lovely day!

Poor Tess! Actually glad the Sushi was found innocent!

It must have been the kale- LOL Not every dish turns out well, at least speaking from my experience. But I do try to stay out of the rut!
