I realized this morning that in just a few months I will have been a member at Sparkpeople for 9 years. I was beating myself up about that, in nearly 9 years I have never met my original goal. I have been close and regained a few pounds but never met goal. I went from that negative thought to another, I didn't pass up on the donut this morning. Then another negative thought, I'm really behind on activity minutes this week. emoticon Then my inner cheerleader came running in. emoticon Hey, 9 years ago when I joined I lost a substantial amount of weight and in that amount of time I have managed to keep off 42 pounds. That's great! So what I had 1 donut, I made good choices yesterday and I have the rest of today to make good choices. Yea, it's bad that I'm behind on activity time but I have today and tomorrow to hit goal. Which I absolutely can do if I am diligent. emoticon So when the negative thoughts come crushing down emoticon give yourself a pep talk. emoticon Call in your own personal inner cheerleader emoticon Don't let a bad choice, or two get you down. emoticon emoticon

    I can relate as I still haven't gotten to my goal weight in five years. On the other hand I might be a lot bigger than I am now if I had quit Sparking. Your pictures looks good. You are doing great!

    Thank you for reminding us that WE have the power over negative thoughts. We don't have to dwell on mistakes. We just have to aknowledge them, learn how to not reproduce it (that can take several attempts!) and than, go on with our lives!
    I read this very neat analogy about messing up. If today, you have, say, a donut, are you going to keep on "messing up" because well... you already messed up and you might as well keep messing up because the day is ruined!? Well, imagine the "messing up" is a car accident. Would you keep on having car accidents that day BECAUSE you already had one? No, you wouldn't. So, that donut is no big deal, just keep on doing the best you can today!

    THANK YOU!!! You can't imagine how grateful I am today for your post. I have been putting myself down because I was close to my first big goal (after losing 80 pounds) and now I am regaining some and I am feeling lost and defeated... after 80 pounds!!!!! You provided me with the words I couldn't mastered !!!! THANKS and wishing you a wonderful journey ahead!!!! emoticon emoticon and I just hope I can join this journey with new strength.
