Do's and Dont's of the Mayo Way (and I don't mean mayonnaise LOL)

Saturday, January 28, 2017

Just got this in an email from my health insurance company. If you click on the blue link, it gives explanations for each tip. The tip about "only watch as much TV as you do exercising” made me eek! Wouldn’t that be something!
This New Year, why not resolve to take a new approach to dieting? Toss out those yo-yo diets that promise instant weight loss. Try the Mayo Clinic "no-diet," diet instead.

The key to the diet from the well-respected Mayo Clinic in Minnesota is more about lifestyle changes. It's not just strict dieting. It helps you take a common-sense look at your weight loss goals and your eating habits. The thought behind the approach is few people can really stick to a diet forever. But if you make simple changes to the way you look at food and exercise, you'll lose weight.

The Do's and Dont's of the Mayo Way
Here's a good way to get started.
1. Never eat while you watch TV
2. Eat more real food (food closest to its natural state)
3. Set realistic goals you can commit to
4. Stop dining out so much
5. Be more active, more often

Here's the link for an explanation of each of the 5 tips:

Hope you are able to take something useful from this. Have a great weekend!

Has anyone followed through with the Mayo Clinic Diet (Lifestyle approach program) since this post? I have just experienced an Acute Exacerbated COPD episode -(last cigarette was on Sept. 1, 2016!), and I don't ever want to experience it again! Since I'm obese at a 30.5 BMI, I have vowed to lose weight at a very reasonable rate of 1 pound per week, so I am down to a healthier weight. This program looks good - and online for $4.00 per week ($52 charged in advance of 13 weeks) looks doable.
    Anyone got advice on this?
