Being Sick Can Take A Toll on Progress!
Wednesday, January 11, 2017
It started as a slightly scratchy throat and a bit of head congestion the Monday before Thanksgiving. I figured it was no big deal and that I, as usual, would skate through it in a day or two. Holy Hannah was I wrong!
Here I sit, 7 weeks later, still fighting the nastiness that this virus-turned-bronchitis/sinus-
infection/ear-infection has wrought. 3 rounds of antibiotics, 1 round of prednisone, and 3 inhalers later, I am still trying to get back to the land of good health. I has definitely taken a toll on my body as well as on my overall progress with my weight loss and fitness. It has been totally discouraging and has brought me to tears on several occasions because I have felt so helpless.
I have been unable to go to the gym to exercise for 6 weeks because the chest congestion was more than I could deal with. Coughing up a lung on the track or in the pool is highly frowned upon in these places (and who can blame them). So is passing out because your O2 sats are in the low 80's range and you're trying to make just one more lap (although, I have to say we have some awfully good-looking paramedics in the town where I live).
Between the medications and the lack of a consistent diet, I have put back on 10 of the 210 pounds I have lost. I am upset about that, but I'm trying to keep it in perspective. I am also learning that I have to cut myself some slack for things that are out of my control (which is a skill I really have to work on because, like most of us, I am VERY hard on myself!). Hopefully, the healing process will continue and I can start getting back to my normal routine. Wish me luck!
