Starting off the New Year right - With a Treamill and home Gym - 184.6

Monday, January 09, 2017

It's January and I am coming off of a really bad sinus cold and respiratory flu. Not just me, the Grandkids have it too now, sadly. Besides this, we also all took turns in our family, having the stomach flu, in the weeks before Christmas. I didn't think I would catch anything this severe, so quickly after the last bout. As that was a rough patch too for all. But I have my health, and so I cannot complain.
I am excited as my Son and Husband took a masive effort to get our Nordictrack Treadmill, (DH Christmas Gift to ourselves).Well, they moved it out of the garage and down the basement. Finally we are going to have a home gym. Years ago, I bought a Christy Brinkly/Chuck Norris type of inclined, pulley and glide exerciser. I never used it, but when our son moved back from college, he used it religiously. He said it was a great workout, and he only had it set up in the garage. My husband, being the naysayer, at the time said that thing wasn't coming in the house. But my son brought it in, and my husband dusted it all off, and set it up. So we are going to get an exercise bike too. We have the gym membership, it's $10 a month, but I don't like to go do indoor exercise. I love walking outdoors. But, all of my friends, and walking buddies have moved away. And I realize, I used to go out, rain, snow, sleet or hail, alone or with a walking partner, and I just don't do that like I used to. I am pretty sure watching the grandkids all day and taking night classes, has me short on time.
So being realistic, I am seting maintainable goals, and getting more serious than I have been in a long time. My husband got the opposite of a clean bill of health from the Dr. He never ever goes, but she made him go in after refusing to fill his Blood Pressure Med, refill, as he had not stepped foot in her office in over 3 years. She's a whippersnapper and we love her!! Well, he is pre-diabetic, needed cholesterol meds, and was told to lose the spare tires.
So he is actually getting us set up to have a workout space, he cleared out the room, and cleaned it all himself. A lot of first here, but I am loving it!!
So I am going to Spark in Full Force, not half hearted.
I was down almost 30 pounds for my daughters wedding 2.5 years ago, and how did I ever allow myself to let weight just pile back on, and my measured eating and tracking all fall to the wayside. I never really know how I get so far off track, so I think if I want to have lasting success, I need to check in daily. Exercise Daily, Track Nutriton Daily, and keep in touch with my SparkFriends, and Spark Community Daily. Or really, what's the point. Even though I am quite tall, I feel very uncomfortable at this weight, I can't tie my shoes, or bend at the waist, and my clothing doesn't fit. I have decided to pull out and set aside for each morning, a set of workout gear and keep myself open to workout, no matter where, home or daughter's place. I will go to the Gym 2 days each week. Use the Eliptcal and Rower there. Another thing, I will get to bed earlier. I have an early wake up time. I need more sleep, and to rest more.
Currrently, I need to nap the 2 days a week the toddler is in PreSchool. But I am going to try and change that habit. If I can. They have a treadmill, and it's the moment to use it, before i even get home and it's too dark to walk in Winter.
Here's to getting 2017 Off to a Great Start. Thanks to everyone, who wrote regarding my freind and neighbour's death. I felt the love, and concern.

Great having exercise equipment at home. I have a rower, ball, resistance bands and weights in France, and go to the gym in London. At FIL's house there is a treadmill and I bring a resistance band.
    Good luck in 2017!

I love your HOME GYM...afterall, you can't get away from it when it's there, right? No excuses & it will happen...good for you for putting your health on the forefront...

I was surprised at all the people around me who were getting sick throughout the holidays. All were in VARIOUS levels of less than OPTIMAL health...It showed me that one benefit of keeping my immune system STRONG by exercising & choosing good food choices is staying well as I age. Harder to recover if you fall ill to viruses. I ALSO get my FLU SHOT regulaRLY!!!

emoticon I've never used the treadmill at my gym because I don't like it, but I just started this month. I'm warming up to it. You've got a good, realistic plan.

Hope you're feeling better. I feel like I"m getting a sinus cold myself. My treadmill recently broke, and I have been dancing on the wii and doing some zumba videos on youtube. Lots of wonderful resources out there if you get tired of the same ol dreadmill :)
